going to the shop i give lessons at every weekend i stumbled upon this new arrival:
http://www.peavey.com/products/index.cfm/item/805/118344/VK%26nbsp%3BMicro%26%238209%3Bhead The peavey valveking micro head. it's a 20w dual EL84 all tube amp with built in attenuator (20w 5w or 1w) and internal dummy load for silent practice. and Usb Out, and Reverb, and Serial Effects loop, and footswitchable boost and channel switch and loop engage and reverb..
pheww! lots of features in this little box, and it's indeed tiny, 14.75 inches wide by about 7 inches tall.
The tone? well it's typical Peavey VK tone, some hate, some like. It works for what i wanted it as, a simple living room practice amp that doesn't need tons of pedals and cluttered cables to sound right. i plugged it into an Eminence lady luck 1x12 cab and i'm well on my way to glory.
being in canada i'm a bit screwed by the exchange rate but 500$ wasn't bad at all for the features you get. my only gripe is that you can't disable the speaker simulator in the direct out, would've been great to record using my redwirez IR's with just the usb out.
Reverb is great and a godsend when playing with headphones.
there's a bias pot inside so it's not fixed anymore like the old VK's.
the missus likes it too as it's got that simple streamlined look and also has the Loud but quiet tone that attenuation to 1w gives you.
here's a cr@ppy phone photo :)
