Bridge pickup for Jackson Dinky
« on: January 06, 2022, 09:10:17 PM »
Hi all, long time no see. I think my last post was about my Blackmachine being stolen, and I'd been away a few years before that!

I'm looking for suggestions for a bridge pickup for a Jackson dinky DK2. Alder body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard with a floyd rose. 25.5 scale. I play in drop A with big ol' 14-64 strings. Mostly playing grindcore in the vein of Pig Destroyer. Very dense, very fast, very heavy, basically. I like lots of clarity in the low end, pronounced attack, and fairly sharp upper mids and highs.

I had painkillers in my B2 (swamp ash body, rosewood neck, ebony board) and loved them but think maybe I need something with even more clarity and focus since this guitar doesn't have that built in like that Blackmachine did. As I say, I've been out of the BKP game a little while and haven't tried any of the more djenty-focussed pickups and wondered if maybe one of those might be a good shout?

I have a Blackmachine B6 with ceramic warpig/warpig set and have another B2 on the way that I'll probably have Painkillers in, too. So have some bases covered.

Really, I bought this guitar for recording daft solos that need a vibrato and think I'll put a Cold Sweat in the neck for that, unless anyone has any particular ideas on that front.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Hey nfe, nice to see you around here again! What ended up happening with the B2?
Yep, the Black Hawks could be cool (ceramic bridge), but I'd say the Ragnarok could be ideal, so could the Brute Forces, or alternatively you could take a different angle and drop down to the True Grits for a tight, clear and bright tone with a different dynamic to what you've had in the past. With thick strings like that the output will still be very usable for the styles you play.

Thanks, man. Nothing, unfortunately. I've lots of alerts set up and all the local music shops know me but no one has ever tried to sell it on anywhere publicly. A bar-steward.

Eventually got myself into a position where I could afford another right when Doug took orders for a few 20th anniversary ones so got money down on one of those. Let's be honest the prices are wild but I pine for that guitar near daily so bugger it.

Thanks for the suggestions (likewise to Dave above!) and, since we've not interacted in a few years, congrats on everything you've managed to do in the interim. Can't stop seeing GGD stuff everywhere!
