So having decided to keep a hold of my SG and combining it with my Tele for a plethora of tones, I want to pimp them both out.

So suggestions for pimping needed people. The SG needs a new switch, keeps cutting out when I switch down to the bridge p/up. Also anything I can do to increase the usefulness of the volume and tone controls? Either full on or at 0, the in-betweens are pretty useless really.

Everything is stock, and before someone mentions upgrading the pickups, I neither have the money nor a good enough reason to right now. One day...

buy a few capacitors and pots to try and find one thats usits you best...  i would always invest in a nice quality nut as well to get the best tone from the guitars - cheap but effective

Any pot or cap recommendations? Any easy guides out there to brush up on?

CTS pots are the standard.  If you've got a Japanese/Korean etc SG you'll need the smaller Alpha pots.

Caps - I've used Sprague Orange Drop and Hovland MusiCaps on my guitars, plus some old unbranded ones which are my personal favourite.  I believe the Jensen paper/oil ones are good too.

I use WD Music for pots as they seem to have the higher quality CTS ones and you can get caps from Axes R Us.  The Hovlands I got from Wilmslow Audio.  A quick Google should find you all those guys  ;)

Or you can try specialty guitars for CTS and Hovlands. Might work out cheaper from the US.
