The Crawler really growls when downtuned. It does stoney/doomy tones surprisingly well.

Has anyone coil tapped a Pig before? If so how much output does it cut off, is it good for clean work?

I have an alnico Pig set in my Warmoth - they are excellent for clean work, even untapped. However, tapped down they sound very nice, slightly thinner (as you would expect) but still full and rounded. Doesn't seem to cut off much output (to the ears - I haven't checked it with a meter or anything). There's certainly not a perceptible drop in volume. I use them tapped for clean passages all the time, and they work well.

I'd also disagree with the idea of the Warpig being a slightly boosted Holy Diver - to my ears the Warpig has more low end. Personally I reckon the Warpig would be ideal for stoner stuff, but certainly worth checking as many clips as possible and making your own call.

Cheers for the info Simon, i gigged the SG last night for the first time and the Gibson humbucker didn't sound half bad, though it would be great if it had more growl and sounded a bit more fuller.

i didn't notice a big difference on the low end
the main difference is the midrange grind of the warpig, that pushes the distortion harder
i didn't try them in the same guitar, but both were high quality mahogany guitars
the holy diver has a big bottom too
