back when the exchange rate was good, one explanation given for the high prices of US-made gear was that they "had to hedge their bets against currency fluctuations". It's not that long ago that the pound was at a similar rate versus the dollar as it is now (1:1.5. or so), and i didn't notice the prices falling too much when the dollar fell to two per pound...
