First time swapping pickup need help!
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:41:32 PM »
Hey guys,

So this is my first pickup change Ive done myself. Im fully confident in my soldering skills but I'm getting confused with a few things.

Its going into an Ibanez RG so tone, volume and 5 switch.
Im putting in a Miracle Man 4 conductor.

HSH configuration

What I do get is -

Red goes to pot tag
Black goes to the back of tone? pot as a grounding

What I'm battling with -

Which tag am I soldering it to for the bridge position
On the FAQs of BKP it mentioned where the red, black, white and green go. But theres a bare wire.
Where does this one go?

And thats all.

Which tag and bare wire placement.

Thanks in advance guys.

Bare wire goes to the back of the pot with the black wire.

The red goes to the 5-way switch
The green and white go together, also to the five way switch

Basically, they attach where the old wires did!

The green and white same position as where the red is?
I thought theyre just left alone soldered together because they came heat shrinked together

Did your Ibanez have a coil-split in the bridge+middle position?  If it did, you'll need those Green+White wires.  If not, they can stay taped together.

If it did have a split, the Ibanez bridge pickup probably has three wires (rather than 4 like the BKP), two of which are connected to the switch and one to ground.

I don't know what colour codes Ibanez use - they seem to vary a lot - but if it does have two wires connected to the switch, the Red from the BKP should connect to one of those points, the Green+White should connect to the other.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

The pickup wire colours will be different, but you should be able to work it out from this wiring diagram and this colour decoder:

* Red on BKP and Red on Ibanez 'bucker go to the same place
* Bare and blue on the Ibanez swap to bare and black on the BKP
* Black and white on the Ibanez 'bucker are replaced by green and white on the BKP
