If you're not planning on using lots of pedals at once you could get a Line 6 M5 for £90, provides a lot of options but you can only emulate 1 pedal at a time

The chorus is my favorite one from the Hardwire series. I'm very picky about chorus and this pedal has great headroom and sound, especially the Jazz chorus is great.

that's interesting. i have the x series chorus and it's a bit digital-sounding. not terrible or anything, but i prefer my tonerider.

I have owned one before and was rate impressed but dont you need line 6's own power adapter?  I cant be arsed with that and would like th option for batteries.  I have been looking at them on flea bay though....

I regret selling my M13 now loved every thing about it but didnt like any of the overdrive type stuff at all.

I will say Line 6 do modulation fx as good as any body.

Oh yeah, the overdrives on them are awful! But for many modulations, reverbs and delays you can't go wrong imo.

The Diago site says you can run an M5 from 1 of their supplies with no issues. I've tried mine but it creates a lot of digital noise. Dunno if you'd have better luck as yours is a newer 1?

They're about 70quid 2nd hand mate so worth keeping your eye open for. I really like mine.

I'm not familiar with the X series, I'm afraid. I have the Hardwire Tremolo and the Chorus and I used to have the Overdrive, but I sold the Overdrive (it was good as well, but I prefer my T-Rex MAB). The chorus is pretty much as the clips on their website. I like how especially with the baritone the tone on the low B string is huge, piano like and clear. Some others, admittedly, might not like this clarity, but I love it.

I have the Joyo Vintage Phase - Its a pretty good copy of the MXR - never had problems with it in terms of noise.  I find that ultra cheap is a bit like ultra booteek in some respects - you can get some real pigs due to a bad day's soldering, or you can get a perfectly good pedal.

^ That's an interesting point you make about ultra-boutique versus ultra-cheap and I agree. Under a certain price you're possibly asking for trouble, and over a certain price makes me very suspicious as well...

Just my two bits. I have been looking at and demoing some FX pedals. I like the Hardwire line, but not cheap.

I did pick up a JanMan Solo XT, and while registering it, stumbled onto their IStomp pedal. Basically, you plug
in the pedal, download a FX from your iphone (free app, 10 free personalities) and use it as that FX. It takes
a few seconds to download, so it isn't in line for insta switch of personality. But It is lowish cost, and I have
found the Digitech stuff (only have 1, brother has 2) to be decently built.

The IStomp is a pedal that is a blank sheet, until you download a personality from IPhone or IPad. It was being
sold at a $150 USD price point, and looks like it is being discontinued. I thought $!50USD was too much, then i
found a bunch of them on Amazon, new and used. Amazon was asking $55USD (from memory) and it comes
with 10 (maybe more) personalities free, with another 20-ish for $.99 to looks like $10 downloadable from ITunes
apps.

There are still a number of retailers offering this same pedal for $150. So the Amazon price is a steal.

There are reviews on the pedal. Look them up. I wouldn't buy at $150, but am buying one in a day or so.

Just for the record, the Dano "coolcat" series pedals are rather good value for the money and mines have proven to be quite reliaible so far  (have / had the OD (TCO1), the Trem and the Chorus. I sold the Chorus because I didn't have any use for a chorus but it sounded good).

^ my v1 drive (ocd clone) died but my transparent od and fuzz (both v1) are still working (touch wood  ) and still really, really nice.

I guess it kind of goes back to my original point about the tone versus reliability. The tone's there (though maybe a little more background noise than would be ideal) but I'm not sure of the reliability.

They make some good stuff.  I had  FAB Chorus which cost 10-15 quid.  I preffered it to the stuff Boss make it was just a bit fragile and noisey though
