Epi Les Paul studio Full Upgrade
« on: August 21, 2014, 02:25:19 AM »
HI fellers, new guy here after a few opinions!

I'm in the process of fully upgrading my 1998 les paul studio and I'm after your opinions on some bare knuckle combinations...

I want something quite bitey and crisp in the bridge and something nice and warm in the neck. I play in a few different styles rock indie vintage rock etc so I don't want to be tied down with a pair of humbuckers that aren't as versatile as I need.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated,  cheers guys!

Scott.

A Cold Sweat set should get you there, given what you've said about 'bitey and crisp in the bridge'.

IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS

A-Bomb bridge and Rebel Yell neck.  It makes for one hell of a versatile LP.  (That's what I have)

There was a member who proudly said that with the right gear a Riff Raff will do almost anything . And I tend to agree with that :) I don't personally own that pickup but did a lot of research . It's a low output if that interests you but has some bite and that let's call it vintage stingy top end . It should fit in the studio just fine and it's versatile :)

It;s the closest to a burstbucker from Gibson . But a lot of folks assured me it's better ! I stumbled across a very interesting video about the burstbuckers and Lp style guitar . Take a listen . and yes , that tone is achievable with BK pickups :)

The Riff Raff bridge will work well either with the Riff Raff neck ( which is said to have a nice single-coilish vibe ) or the Mule ....The RR bridge and mule neck is a combination used by the man behind BKP . I almost went for this combo for classic rock , rock-blues and hard .....I don't know what change my mind but I will sure try the RR mule combo .

An emerald will be a step forward is you think the RR is not hot enough. Ask if you need more info on this one....i won't write you a novel :)

Hope that helps :)
