4 way switch only two way switching!
« on: August 15, 2006, 05:59:26 PM »
I first put this in my post in the guitars section showing off my tele project, but thought it might be mroe at home here so apologies if youve already seen this!

I have jsut finished building up a Tele and have a 4-way switch in it. Trouble is, the four switch positions seem to do the following:

Pos 1 (nearest neck): Neck only
Pos 2: Neck only (possibly neck and bridge but if it is then the bridge is VERY VERY weak signal in it)
Pos 3: Bridge Only
Pos 4: bridge Only

So positions 1 and 3 are behaving pefectly, but positions 2 and 4arent. I've checked the wiring about 10 times now and it is all absolutely correct according to this diagram i used (url]http://www.acmeguitarworks.com/pdf/tele_4-way_diagram.pdf[/url]).

I was just looking at it before posting this and the only thing I cna think of is to do with the extra ground wire for the neck p'up.

Ive attached a new wire, by cutting the little tab and attaching another wire, but am now wondering if i attached it to the right side of the tab?

Do you attach it to the little blob of soler where the existing ground comes back through the base plate or to the little blob located behind both of the wires (towards the middle of the plate)?? Ive tried showing this in the daigram below to try and make it a bit clearer!!

Cheers in advance for any help!!

You solder to the 'or here' point.   Are you sure you have the switch the right way round?  There is a 'common' tab at one end and if you soldered the lead pick hot to it, I think you might get what you are describing.
So many pickups, so little time
