i think Tim has done a pickup like this, the Knuckleduster, which i believe is exclusively for Nathan Sheppard guitars.  also Swineshead do a humbucker which is two actual single coil pickups together, although i've no idea what it sounds like.

maybe Tim would do something like this, i'd be interested.

kool name .. ne idea what it sounds like??

i read a review of the guitar and pickup in a magazine a while back, i think it's basically two telecaster bridge pickups, although i can't find it now and i could be wrong! 8)

so split, a wiry tele, combined, probably a big snarly snappy thing!  hopefully Tim himself can set us straight?

FWIW I've spent many moons chasing after the most versatile guitar I could find. I was NEVER statisfied, I finally gave up and have a tele for the classic single coil sound, Carvin for the metal, and my Les Paul for everything. I've seen and heard a lot of weird stuff in guitars to make them more "versatile" and 99% the sound like shite. My advice to you would be just have different guitars for different sounds, makes so much more sense and is much less of a headache.

You could probably buy a second guitar used on eBay for what it'd cost Tim to do a custom pickup like that for you ;)

Yup - I bought my strat (soon to get the BK's delivered yesterday) for £150 on ebay, and it's in near perfect condition. It's a mexi standard, but it's also £140 cheaper than new - that means an apache loaded strat for £25 more than a regular one...or (as I opted for) an HSS set for £50 more than standard. Either way a good deal :)

Aren't the pickups in a PRS 513 essentially all single-coils, or am I a liar?

I just meant as an indication what you're planning to do is well feasible, and could sound pretty cool.

My parents said the same thing - their argument was "Why do you need so many guitars, you can't play them all at once". I immediately replied "Well, why do you need so many DVD's, you can't watch them all at once" and now I have 4 guitars :)

Two singles in series can sound nice indeed. Here's my Strat with an Apache and an Irish Tour. Different wire, different magnets, different coils - but they are great together. :)
