if you roll the volume down, does she clean up?  not jazz clean, but clean enough, say for song intro type stuff?

You have to back it right off for a clean sound. But when you do its pretty good, yeah. Certainly not my first choice for a clean, but its useable live, say.

It also depends on what wood it is in.

parallel... i'd say it would clean up a bit...

but why would you need clean from a pickup that's brutality impersonated?

Mines wired for series, split and parallel.

Parallel, it opens up a little, compresses less, has good cleans, takes the edge off the gain, but is still harder hitting than most pickups in series. Really articulate shred tone. I like this one.

Series is still aggressive for a single sound. Quite full, too. Still has a little difficulty cleaning up, but is obviously the easiest.

well, I dug out a mahogany Explorer body and neck that I ordered from Warmoth about 4 years ago when I was going through a "I wanna sound like Hetfield" phase.  I forgot I had those damned things!  for some reason I ordered the body with a single humbucker route at the bridge, so I guess I was looking to get Metallicrunch and clean outta one pup?

a ceramic Warpig is definitely going in there.  if it doesn't clean up, no big deal.

If you add a 3 way switch for series/parallel/coil-split it will give you lots of choice and the split will let you get much cleaner, it'll be like a hot single coil. Stick on a bit of chorus and you're there.
