Hi there!

Basically I'm looking to get me a shiny new set of humbuckers but there are a few questions i would like to ask;
Do the warpigs have to have the distressed covers that they have in the photos?
Also my guitar is a Gordon Smith Graduate Slimline, i read in one of the other posts something about problems with fitting pickups in Gordon Smiths, is this something that im likely to encounter?

At the moment im torn between getting a set of Warpigs, or getting a nailabomb and a warpig. I play mainly stuff like Pantera and BLS (not that well but i enjoy it!) and im also very indecisive so if any of u can persuade me either way.......

No the Warpigs don't have to come in 'armour', we can do all finishes.

We do short leg versions of all our pickups-the player who had probs got his off ebay and not us-when you buy direct we check out this sort of thing.

What type of tones are you looking for and I'm guessing you're into heavy stuff but what styles?

It may be worth getting a tech to install if you're not sure. Gordon Smiths can be a little wierd.

Um....The typical Pantera and BLS tones mainly. Im quite fond of the occational bit of maiden and the odd bit of classic rock, stuff like ACDC and Led Zeppelin

I know of other Gordon Smith owners that have installed Warpigs and got great results.

hmmm i think i misread HJM's post. So wat do ppl recommend Warpig and a nailbomb, or a set of warpigs?

Go for a pair of calibrated Warpigs-they sound great and are properly balanced for both positions.

It appears that my problem was nothing at all to do with the long legs of the pickup :shock:

On my Gordon Smith I found that the holes that were drilled for the pickup screw magnets to slot into weren't long enough to accomodate the longer magnets that BK Pups use. I drilled these holes deeper and the bridge pickup is now fitted and works fine :D

The neck pickup however is a different story. I drilled both the screw magnet holes and the pickup leg holes deepr and it made little to no difference. It appears that there's a 2mm 'slab' of wood in the centre of the cavity and the BK pup I installed appears to be 'resting' on this slab of wood and cannot move up or down in the pickup mounting ring.

I bought a Dremel type rotary power tool yesterday, so the slab of wood is soon to be no more and then I can finally get my BK pups fitted and get trying them out :D

Just thought I'd elaborate that it wasn't the long legs of the pup and it was indeed the routing of the guitar that's causing me my problems :)

At the minute there's 1 string on my Gordon Smith (to keep the bridge and tailpiece inplace) and I plugged the guitar into a practise amp so I could tap on the pickups to check they're working and what coils I'm splitting too etc and 1 thing I noticed was that these pickups are VERY loud :D

I know that sounds stupid, but on the same volume setting on the amp that I had the previous pickups set at to practise (the pups are almost the same K readings) the BKs seem a hell of a lot louder and more open sounding than the pickups that I had in there before :D

Hopefully I should get the guitar routed today, so I'll hopefully be able to post some opinions of the pickups :D
