So I like my Mother's Milk set, but the bridge pickup is way too wussy. I realise that all strats are like this, so not a complaint of the pickup per se but it's not for moi.

Basically I want something with more balls in the bridge position. The neck and middle sound awesome but the bridge needs some testicles.

Tim recommends either the Slowhand or the Trilogy, with the Sinner being far too mis-matched compared to the MMs. So kind BKP people, anyone with a Trilogy bridge or Slowhand bridge want to chip in some opinions? Just so happens that there are no clips at all of these units, so it's word of mouth only I'm afraid.

i don't know about the slow hands, but if you search around there are many clips of the trilogy, do a search in the players section, theres quite a few lead tones around of it and somewhere theres tears in the rain played on one, and i think theres also one or two of the slow-hands.

In my searching the only Trilogy bridge I could find was of _Tom_'s neck into the bridge position. Although the clips are good, not quite what I'm after. And there are no Slowhand clips, searched high and low...

I'm tempted by the Slowhand bridge though, thinking the Trilogy might be TOO high output.

I can probably do another clip for you with the Trilogy if you like - tell me what kinda sound you're after and I'll have a go :) Tim also recommended the Slowhand bridge to me as it apparently has more mids than the other singles - I would say the Trilogy is a bit scooped sounding.

The problem with your clips Tom is that its a neck Trilogy in the bridge position :lol: Sounds good though, but not as accurate as a dedicated bridge unit. Still tempted by the Slowhand though, afraid the Trilogy will be too biting, which is not what I'm after.

Do you realise that a bridge single coil is no different in construction - its just wound hotter to balance with the rest of the pickups due to the difference in length between the neck and the bridge.

I would have thought with a mother's milk set you would want a slightly cooler trilogy like Tom's neck - i.e. at 11k not at 15k otherwise you are going to unbalance you tone completely: it'll be like your Piledriver again.

As to slowhands - the Milk is 6.8k in the bridge - the Slowhand is 7.5k - I wouldn't have thought the 'hotness' is much more but couple with the mid range eq it might be just a little bit more for your needs.

Personally, I think you are just experiencing what 3 single coil strats are about - the bridge has the tone you describe - that's why metal heads go for a HSS config.

On the other hand, the bridge is great left in reserve for certain sounds - like rock n' roll, Surf and country type stuff. Or bolster it up with a bassy fuzz or distortion box and it sounds just fine for full on stuff.

I see what you mean Elliot, I have a bridge single coil and it will always be a bridge single coil. I know it has it's uses but alas I don't like it as much as the neck and middle positions.

As for construction, I was under the impression that the 3 positions are voiced slightly differently. Live and learn.

Pretty much decided on a slightly more 'modern', hotter bridge tone, and the Slowhand seems to fit the bill.

Love the irony though, a hot set (the Piledrivers) wasn't what I was after and I'm super happy with my Country Boys, and now I'm looking for a hotter unit as the low output unit isn't up to scratch. I suck.

Mark, I would say that the S/H may still seem to you to be lightweight.Compared to my Apache set, I would say that the output overall is not a lot different -it is more a case of there being a different output.For example, the S/H seems to have more mids and upper mids than the Apache( and I know you have M/M's but I don't so I have to compare with what I do have) but certainly not higher output to my ears at any rate. I tend to use the amp and a pedal to crank thinks up a bit.

Not necessarily looking for higher output per se, but just a rounder tone, less bite and more oomph. The Slowhands was recommended by Tim for its darker and fatter tone. THAT'S what I'm after.

Well the weedy MM bridge is on it's way to Tim, hopefully a Slowhand will be on it's way soon.

I like single coils, but hate the bridge twang. Odd seeing that's how they are supposed to sound. Hopefully the SH will round out the tone a little.

I find it odd that you call it 'weedy', maybe its a generation thing but most strat players would consider 6.8k hot in the bridge. I don't find mine weedy at all, just what perfect a strat bridge should sound like.

Thinking back to Strat greats its hotter than the pickups in the actual guitars of Hendrix, SRV, Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore (during his mid 80s fiesta red strat era). Loads of strat players, especially the SRV gang, would say 6.8 is too hot for them.

Its not a criticism, more of an observation as to how fashions have changed - When I first played guitar (i'm on my second attempt), people I used to play guitar with wanted weaker strat pickups (in the 6k range for the bridge) so that the amp and pedals did the work, not more. But its horses for courses - let us know how you get on.

I have a MMilks set in a strat which I absolutely love. Bridge pickup doesn't sound hot but I can create more expression (tone) than other of my squeezes. As Elliot says these are hot compared to what many of the legends used to use. I like the the way the MM interacts with a treble booster into an already cooking amp- one of my all time favourite tones, oh and fuzz tones also sound better with relatively low output sc's, but as the Americans say 'your mileage may vary'!
