I find it odd that you call it 'weedy', maybe its a generation thing but most strat players would consider 6.8k hot in the bridge. I don't find mine weedy at all, just what perfect a strat bridge should sound like.
Thinking back to Strat greats its hotter than the pickups in the actual guitars of Hendrix, SRV, Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore (during his mid 80s fiesta red strat era). Loads of strat players, especially the SRV gang, would say 6.8 is too hot for them.
Its not a criticism, more of an observation as to how fashions have changed - When I first played guitar (i'm on my second attempt), people I used to play guitar with wanted weaker strat pickups (in the 6k range for the bridge) so that the amp and pedals did the work, not more. But its horses for courses - let us know how you get on.
