Capacitors

Right........capacitor question for those of you technically minded out there.

I've just re-wired my Flying V with its Mules and I've gone a wired in a 300K pot for the tone to take some of the brightness away from the Korina, but the only capacitor I had was a standard Sprague orange drop 0.22 one that I had from the last Les Paul rebuild I did.  Now the schematic I had for wiring the V were suggesting a 0.47 Cap............question is...

What difference will that make?

A .047 gives more bass than a .022.  It is more often used in a Fender, though through the years Gibson have used .022, .033 and .047 in different guitars.

Yes, the higher the value of the cap, the more treble the tone control will roll off.  So with the .022 the sound will get less dark (with the tone on 0) than with the .047.

I think it'll be fine - I like quite a dark tone, especially from the neck pickup, and .022 works fine for me.  On newer guitars .022 is pretty much the "industry standard" nowadays anyway, even with single-coils.

I personally prefer the 0.022 as it makes the tone control much more usable

The 0.047 gets too muddy for me.
On a strat the 00.022 is a joy as it darkens things into more of a growl
Especially with Orange drops, Hovland or Vitamin Q

If a guitar is too bright naturally then a 0.047 cap can be a godsend for getting more usable sounds.
