Please please help with router and network problems... :(
« on: October 29, 2007, 06:46:03 PM »
Right now I'm connected straight to the modem and everything works fine.

When I got the router I set it up and well, Virgin Media hadn't provided us with ANY instructions as to what to input, nor had AzueWaves who did the router.

Either way... everything worked fine except I couldn't get the Internet through it. The wireless network and WEP key worked 100%.

Anyway last night I went to Maplin to ask what was wrong and got some info, tried it but to no avail. Then after a bunch of tries, my computer simply WOULD NOT LET ME ACCESS THE ROUTER ANYMORE!

It still doesn't.

So I can't setup the darn thing.

I have NO CLUE as to why not. I didn't touch anything on my PC. It did the same last night but worked after a while, or worked on wireless. Today it doesn't work AT ALL. I just cannot access the frenching thing.

Any help is VERY appreciated as my flatmate Pippa has a TON of work (in tens of hours) and for obvious reasons can't use my room 24/7 to work. Thanks...

What's the router?  There should be an IP address for it so you can access via a cable to set the router up.  Google the make/model and see if you can get it.  It'll be something like:

192.168.1.1

Yep... That's the thing that doesn't work. As I said, it worked fine before (via cable AND wireless) but it just stopped working, I can't access the router anymore)

You've probably already done this but I'd suggest unplugging the router leaving it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. The Belkin and netgear routers that I use do on occaion freeze and require restarting. give it a few minutes then try the 192.168.1.1 or whatever your routers address is and see if you can get on.

also try 192.168.0.1

are you getting lights to say that you are connected to the actual line? there should be a power light, a wireless light & a line light, if any of these aren't lit then you've narrowed down to the problem. If it's just a case of no actual connection to the net then there's a configuartion problem inside the router, and to check that you need to log in

I know the router's IP, and all the lights blink up as they should. It's just that when I enter the IP in IE, it simply doesn't work. I tried restarting everything about 10 times by now :(

are you connected directly to the router with a cable when you're trying to set it up?
