Just wondered if any of you guys had seen this?

Jeff Beck announces rare shows

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has announced six shows in five days at the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Club in London’s Soho, running from November 27 to December 1.

With a band featuring drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, keyboardist Jason Rebello and female bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, Jeff will be performing a wide selection of material over the week.

Ronnie Scott’s only holds 200 people and has recently had a £3 million makeover. No seat is more then 50 feet from the stage. So this is a rare opportunity to catch one of the world’s greatest guitarists in a very intimate environment.

I saw him at the Albert Hall a couple of years back. He is an amazing guitarist but the music takes some getting into - personally I found it just too esoteric and self-indulgent.

I'd be up for seeing Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts!! I've been in there before and can imagine how good it would be to see him there. I saw him in Las Vegas a year ago and it was amazing. His music is always new and very creative. The sounds he can make just leave me gobsmacked.

Yeah, me too and I know what you mean - the first few songs I was amazed, then after half an hour I was starting to think OK, now can you play something with a melody and a few less squawky noises.

:o Behind the veil, where were you, two rivers... amazing songs first and foremost, and then incredible guitar work to cap it off :) admitedly all from guitar shop and since then I would concede he has dabbled a little too far occasionally, leading to less consistent albums, but there is always melody there...I would love to get to RS's to see him again :)

Yeah, I know, I was generalising as usual.  I know he has done many strong melodic pieces over the years, but I still think most of his stuff is music for musicians.  We can sit there and go "wow, he played that whole lick just by picking one string and using the whammy bar" but to an average listener, so what?

I don't dislike Beck, he's an amazing guitarist.  Of the original "Big 3", "Holy Trinity", whatever you want to call them, he's the one who's continued to evolve as a player and he's probably also the most contemporary, in some ways (despite having exactly the same hairstyle for 40 years!).  I like him enough to pay for that Festival Hall ticket, but I was bored after half an hour.  I find his current playing style quite grating to listen to, especially since he gave up using a pick and stated using the whammy bar all the time.  It's music that works best in small doses.

(Just my opinion, of course   )
