Ibz 7-string (1527) owners! Did you have to route for BKP's?
« on: November 01, 2007, 03:54:51 PM »
I got my BKP's in the mail today. I took my 1527 to the shop to have them installed. The guy just called me and said that the BKP's won't fit in the guitar, and he won't route it because there's not enough wood. I'm picking up the guitar tomorrow, and I thought I'd check for myself to see if they fit (just to be sure). I already sent an email to Tim, but I thought I'd ask here, too. If they have to be routed, I guess I'll have to return the pups. I don't know anyone who I'd trust to do it. :(

So, have you Ibanez 7 owners had to route your pup cavities to fit BKP's?

Hi! Welcome to the forum!

I have the same guitar as you do, and my BKPs work just fine :) But I'm afraid not much into the technical stuff, so I really don't know how to explain it to you. My friend did the job, and I remember him having some problems as well. But later it turned up to be quite easy. It's just that none of us had installed a pickup before lol.

I'm sure someone will give you more info than me, so stay put, and don't you sell those BKPs, you might regret it :D

What BKP's are they anyways?
I wish women were like pickups - if they lack output, you sell them... or ask Tim to rewind them :D

They're a Nailbomb bridge/Cold Sweat neck combo. I really, really don't want to return them, so I'd really love to find a solution. Do you know if your pickups fit into the cavities or did your friend have to modify the guitar to fit them?

...he won't route it because there's not enough wood

Those words imply that the existing rout isn't deep enough rather than long/wide enough.

Looking at some pics of a 1527 (don't have one myself), I guess you needed to order short legs & triangular feet...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

By the way, Wintersun, are you a member at sevenstring.org? I hang around there a lot.

I believe the box had the "short legs" box ticked, and the feet looked like a perfect fit for the routes.

They fit perfectly. You just need to use your screws from your stock pickups. and improvise with the springs, to be able to adjust the hight. I just cut the springs I got to a 5 mm, and placed them with those stock screws. Works great

Thanks. I'll take a look at them when I get my guitar back tomorrow.  This whole thing has me kinda confused. Maybe the guys at the shop just want me to buy Dimarzio's from them, the guy actually said over the phone that I could order Dimarzio's that fit perfectly.

Mine was made the same year. Had to wait 2 months to get it! Unless they suddenly changed the depth of the routes during 2006, I should be okay then.   :D

Just got an email back from Tim. He said he has an RG1527 and that the pickups fit fine. :D I don't know what the guys at the store are smoking then!
