Probably a stupid, stupid question
« on: November 06, 2007, 10:09:35 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm currently going to be switching to a rack setup as opposed to combo/head+cab, and have just bought me a great looking JMP-1 after much research. However, the issue I have is thus - I'll be getting the JMP-1 in a couple of days, I've yet to buy a power amp, but do have a small cab speaker, a 1x12, and my question however stupid is this. Is it possible to plug the pre-amp into the cab and get a sound without use of a power amp, even if its quiet?
sorry if this sounds blummin' stupid, i'm new to rack amps like I said, and i wanna hear my jmp-1 without having to save for another month or so to get a power amp >.<

Sadly not gonna work with the JMP1 - however the headphone and recording outs may give some fun till then

There are a few preamps that can power a cab -Engl E530 is one

nop worries, thanks for the help though - i wasnt aware that there was a recording out or headphone jack on a jmp-1, if thats the case then its not really a problem for now ^^ - whats the recording output? lineout or midi or something else?

The JMP1 has speaker simulated outputs that record pretty well
It's an analogue output (remember this came out before even pentium PCs were about they were probably still on 286/386 back then) so was designed to go down on tape but does elinate the need for a dedicated speaker simulator

Guitarist magazine used to record many of their demos with it years ago and go direct to tape as I recall

Here is a link to a download pdf for the JMP1 manual:

:D The record outs are 2 speaker emulated outputs enabling you to plug straight into a mixing desk, be it a recording desk or P.A. desk. The headphone socket is at the front so you can plug in your headphones straight in. If memory serves correctly its a 1/4 inch jack [ like a guitar lead input ] the 2 recoded outputs are there for stereo but if you just want one output then use the one marked left as it acts as a mono out. Unless you have a sound card on your computer that can take 1/4 inch jacks then you wont be able to plug directly into your computer.

Oh and theres also an FX send & return at the back of the JMP.

God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !
