couple metal covers (miracle man bridge) UPDATED
« on: November 06, 2007, 11:15:38 PM »
ok, so i'm hoping you guys like these a bit more than my last clips- sorry for those  . I spent a bit more time on these, though they're not all perfect. I only know some parts of the songs i did, so they're all just the first couple minutes or whatever.
I did
mouth for war
dead skin mask
seek and destroy
another random riff

i basically did these covers just to see if i could actually record something more in timing. I finally found a drummer after like 4 years so i'm working on getting my timing down in a band setting.

thoughts/ opinions as always...

i'm sorry again, but i am just curious, do you tune up your guitar properly before you play?  Because another thing that hurts your clips is the actual off-tune nature of them...  Again of course is the tempo issue, as i am sure you are well aware of; however, overall much better.  The distortion was more tamed and feedback was lessened, recorded better too i think.

I agree with opprobrium_9.

You also must know that you can't work it out in a few days! It takes months to develop a good ear. If you really love something, you must stick to it, and be stubborn.

Also don't play songs that are way beyond your capabilities. You must take it slow. Guitar is a difficult instrument, it takes a lots of nerves and perfectionism. Details matter a lot!

though i love the criticism, here is where i actually disagree with you. i've been purposely working on difficult songs. i don't see how you can get better if you stick to your comfort level.

unless of course if you are talking in the timing sense. The songs i posted were pretty easy, but i guess when its out of timing it sounds like i can't play...

Well, I wasn't. It was an overall advice. Push it, yes, but don't push it way too much.

I don't wan't to offend you here but the timing is very off, and the tuning is really out. When you learn new material if you can't play it or you are struggling, then slow it down!! and gradually speed it up to the right speed.

Seek and Destroy was MUCH better. HAHAHA! My word, you have no idea.  Still sounds like you are struggling with the tempo, but it is less of an issue here.  O man, you have no idea how much better it is to hear S&D *IN TUNE*!  I must admit, i had a little chuckle on your first go around with S&D, but this time i just laughed because it was miles better.  Keep it up buddy.  Work on your chops with a metronome, it'll do wonders, trust me!

thanks man. it was really pissing me off that every time i was doing recordings i was thinking they were good, and then find out they were terrible. i agree it felt like seek and destroy was in much better timing, but you're right, it was a bit off. i was practicing with a metronome and it felt perfect, then when i played with the song the timing just felt a little bit different...

and whats with people on soundclick? mouth for war is currently at number 2 atop the metal cover chart, and i know its not that good. i don't even have the solo!
