String gauges problem
« on: November 08, 2007, 03:54:41 AM »
I have a problem...

I'm currently using the following gauge
10 13 17 26 36 46 56
and my seventh B string seems a lot looser than the others... So does my low E string, not that much, but I can feel the difference. It just gets very hard sometimes to play some fast riffs.

Do you know which gauge would work best for me? Or is it the guitar setup???

I was thinking of making my custom set
10 13 17 28 38 48 58/(60?)

Any ideas?
I wish women were like pickups - if they lack output, you sell them... or ask Tim to rewind them :D

Deffinately run with a 60 low B, i doubt if there is anything wrong with your set-up. Some string makes have different string tensions at the same gauge. Maybe a diff. make would let you run a 58 if the 60 feels massive compared to the rest of your set.

Hm... What about Ernie Balls?

Different scenario to yours, but I've switched to using D'Addario strings on my downtuned 6-string (A-E-A-D-F#-B), 13 gauge set. I personally won't be going back to Ernie Ball strings again...

D'Addarios do seem more stable than balls to my fingers.
Maybe someone else could help out here, i usually stick to what i like best without trying too many different brands.
