Oh FFS - stop knocking 80s bands because you think others might frown on you liking them
Absolutely nothing wrong with all the bands like Cinderella, Poison etc
It's not "ironic" or embarrassing to love their songs - they are just good songs and liking them is totally understandable

Heres a few good 80s examples

still loving you - scorpions
I still love you - Kiss
more than words - extreme
I remember you skid row
is this love Whitesnake
house of broken love - great white
save your love  great white
angel song - great white
soldier of fortune - deep purple
changes - black sabbath
stranger to love - black sabbath
dont know what you've got - cinderella
to be with you - Mr Big
until i get you - hanoi rocks
wanted dead or alive - bon Jovi
seasons - badlands
bringing on the heartbreak - Def Leppard

Exactly.

Many of the songs could be reorchestrated into many different forms or performed solo and they would STILL stand up as GREAT SONGS.

Let's see how timeless $%&#ing djenting is in 10 years.

Whitesnake - Too Many Tears.

But....

I much prefer the David Coverdale Solo Album version... a bit more introspective. It gives me chills.

Woman in Love, Barbera Streisand, ok it's not really rock but she rips at the end of the song. I generally hate ballads. 8)

Here's some, I have to say I like the 80s a lot, just simple fun and rockin songs, having a good time, which is what it is all about in my opinion, anyway, some ballad/slower songs I'll throw in.

Def Leppard
-When Love And Hate Collide
-Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
-Where Does Love Go When It Dies
Winger - Miles Away
Ratt - One Step Away
Kix - Tear Down The Walls
Britny Fox - Dream On
Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

Whitesnake - 'till the end of time
Thunder - love walked in
Rainbow - love's no friend
Metallica - nothing else matters
Kiss - I still love you
Dokken - jaded heart
Def Leppard - too late for love

Oh and FWIW, the '80s were f**king awesome. Some great bands around at that time.

Edit: Ok so most of mine have been mentioned... Still, worth linking again.

I was going to say at last, a bloke my age who's in worse shape than me!  :)

But I checked and he's actually a few years older - so I could be looking at my future....

(.....minus the beach, the money and Denise Richards  :( )

Off topic, but how things have changed in the last 4 years.... my future was to get skinny, not fatter.  :|

Anyway, I like some of Muttley's choices above.  :)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Anyone said "I would do anything for love (but I wonīt do that)" by Meatloaf yet? Caus that is so very very uber to me....

Sides that (and forgive me for straying a bit from hard rock and metal at times):
Avantasia - Farewell (so very goddamn cheesy...itīs kinda great)
Avantasia - The story ainīt over
Avantasia - Runaway train (this one is just so very powerful and overproduced. Amazing singers too. It is so very close to being a parody though....as Avantasia often is, but I love it)
Bruce Spingsteen - Thunderroad (the ī75 Hammersmith Odeon version is $%&#ing fantastic)
Guns nī Roses - November Rain
In Flames - Chosen Pessimist (not exactly a typical ballad, but hell, it gets me, especially live)
Jimmy Eat World - Invented (not hard rock or metal, but great ballad, especially the break)
Mr. Big - All the way up (the other Mr. Big songs have already been named)
Metallica - Hero of the Day (the S&M version...went with me through some dark times)
Muse - Starlight
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt (when you talk about tearjerkers)
Sonata Arctica - Gravenimage
Stone Sour - Hesitate (bloody heck, this gets me)
Stone Sour - Zzyzx Rd.
Stone Sour - Bother (Cory Tailor even had to stop playing cause his voice started cracking up. He was crying when he played it live...the crowd singing was incredible, insanely touching moment)
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
Van Canto - Spelled in Water
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Rainbow - Catch the Rainbow
Deep Purple - Mistreated, Child in Time
Bon Jovi - Never Say Goodbye
Badlands - Fire and Rain (yes, I know it's a James Taylor cover but what interpretation)
Gary Moore - Empty Rooms
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man

Most of the others that came to mind were already quoted - great selection BTW.

Cheers Stephan

I don't know if this song applies to this group as it has no singing in, but I do think it's a ballad.

Gary Moore - The Loner

Pearl Jam - Black.
Maybe the greatest rock ballad of the last 20 years. Its soaring, emotive, doesn't resort to any cliche and has lyrics in it which anybody who has ever loved and lost will relate too. It hasn't dated in 20 years either.
