Nailbombs or Warpigs in a Ibanez RGT42DXFX
« on: November 23, 2007, 12:29:47 PM »
Hi all im new to bareknuckle pickups and i was wondering which would be better for a Ibanez RGT42DXFX:
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/ibanez-rgt-42dxfx/66755

I play Early Metallica, Trivium, Lamb of God, Machine Head and alot of other metal bands. But i also want good cleans which you cant get on EMGs that well

Good call for the high gain, but the cleans arent as good as the pig.

haha that is very very true. and yes the cleans on the miracle man arent as good BUT put a little chorus on and you get a perfect KEA-AJFA clean tone

i never said they are evil metal monsters  :x

but i think personally they are far too hot and aggressive for my tastes and anything that isnt hardcore/death/doom metal

but thats just my opinion

however the pigs are also amazing for a but of blues playing which shocked the hell out of me

not really
hetfield used a duncan invader in one of his main guitars before the emgs
the alnico pig has less output than the invader (and a lot more tone)
it's like a boosted and angry holy diver

i vote for miracle man

i had a good trivium lead tone with my holy diver and a wylde overdrive bosting my ex-single rectalfire on red channel/vintage mode
in my framus cobra i get a nice machine head modern tone and a raw burn my eyes 90's crossover distortion with my peavey rockmaster preamp
so depends a lot of your amps and guitar

but the miracle man really helps on the chug chug stuff, specially if you're using mesa poopie
alnico pickups sound too loose on it
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Have a calibrated set of Nailbombs on my Ibanez RGT42DX and can absolutely recommend them. They sound fantastic in combination with the through neck and mahogany wings.....my all time fave pups.
I also added another pair of pots to my RGT for individual pup tone and volume with pull up switching for out of phase/.022 to .047 caps/ and neck pup series to parrallel. Also replaced the 5 way pup selector with a 3 way output selector...so it's pretty much wired as per a LP. With tweaking I can get virtually any type of guitar sound out of them....apart perhaps from strat/tele like chime and transparent sizzle...though with the right FX and amp settings they can come pretty close to those too.
So NAILBOMB all the way.....you won't regret it.    :D
