When i was recording i was so wound up in the beginning i had to calm myself down all the time or i would be way too fast with everything
To me it always was pretty demanding, i am kind of used to a looser kind of playing and when hearing that on tape i often get the jitters allthough in the mix it does fill the track up nicely being the rythm guitar part. So thats also my advice, dont judge your playing untill you hear the mix.
8 tracks in two nights is ALOT, probably you need to get everything exept the solo's and the vocals on recording tonight because the latter take up the most time to perfect and the vocals need to be recorded seperately anyway. Youll need to do a mix also in the studio so thats going to take time also. Best to start with the songs that you all played the most so youll have a good head start with not too many retakes IMO. Also this way you can still do another take on a certain track tomorrow after relistening them tomorrow befor you go into the studio again.
I always had some grape suger tablets(dextrose) and sport drinks with me because i always had problems with my muscles getting tired getting the max out of my playing, maybe a tip to take some of that along, just in case.
I hope this is in any way usefull to you, i hope everything turns out like you want it to be.
An AIV SM with a AIV Mule would be so great! I now have two AIV mules but i think the neck mule is quite dirty compared to the bridge one, but with the SM it would be an awsome match. Hmmm........
