Sam, I told you Dave would mention Signatures!

For the price they can't be beaten.  Seriously great guitars.

A Tokai LS75F or LS85F is also great value for money at £599.

Yup that was the site I had bookmarked!

It's been there for yonks, and now when I'm in the market to buy something.... it sells!!!!

This looks very nice:

By the way guys, how much do you get stung in terms of import tax/duty or whatever?

A mate of mine got hit quite badly a couple of years ago when he imported something from the states.

Phil when you bought your Edwards' what was price + shipping + tax?

Shipping is usally around £75 I think?

It's then around 23% of the total guitar + shipping price you have to pay in tax.  That's 17.5% VAT on both, then 3.7% import duty on top of ALL that!

As Dave said above, you need to allow for VAT, Customs duty and there's also a Parcelforce admin fee (usually £13.50).

If you buy a guitar for, say, £450 (including about £70 for shipping), you should expect to pay a little over £100 in additional charges when it reaches the UK.  It's hard to work out exactly because you don't know what exchange rate Customs will apply.

My Edwards guitars are all different so the prices varied, of course, but the most it's cost me, in total, was about £550 - that's on a guitar starting at $770 (£385 approx, before shipping), and I think I may have paid £12 for Saturday delivery.

I don't know much about them, but I've studied pictures of them and they look very well made.  They do some unusual stuff rather than just the usual "copies".  Almost like a high-end custom-shop - I saw a nice hollow-body LP which even had the luthier's name on a little metal plate.

I haven't heard about the ESP connection.

+1

I've heard very good things about bacchus, but never tried (or even seen) one.

I think someone over at HC has one, and says it's excellent.

Hahaha Abalone can look cool some times... and that is one of those times. :D

Thanks for the shipping/duty info guys. That gives me a much clearer picture in my head of what I will be able to afford.

abalone is pretty mank, but it's more subtle on that than those horrid ESP ones.

Bacchus do also have a very cheap budget range which is probably on a level with Squier, so be careful. I wouldn't buy a Bacchus without trying it as their range really does start at beginner and go up to something approximate to Ibanez  J-Custom level. Not quite like top level Japanese guitars such as Combat, Dragonfly, ESP, Deviser, T's, etc.

PS, as for the ESP connection, I haven't heard that before but seeing as ESP own everything from the Musicians Institute in LA and  Schecter guitars to radio stations, I believe it's possible.

Edited for shocking late night spelling.

Haha cheers Ginga.

No way of me trying a Bacchus like... ever...

So yeah.

I'm leaning towards a Signature or some kind of Edwards.

Will have to see if a Sig. turns up anywhere basically!

Good choice  ;)

I'm really curious to know how many flame tops they made.  I'd love another in a different colour burst........

Yeah me too.

I've never been a fan of traditional sunbursts, but I saw a gorgeous honeyburst Signature on Ebay a few months ago.... very VERY nice.

If you want to avoid the joys of customs charges, and would tolerate a Burney how about http://mcguitars.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=62, personally although I'm not a Jimmy Page fan but even I have to say these look pretty damned nice http://mcguitars.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_12&products_id=53
