Ahh! Amp Problems... help.
« on: December 08, 2007, 09:33:30 PM »
Ok, so i'm playing my h&k warp x today on the clean channel and suddenly it starts making these weird noises.

it was the noise that you get when you're on the distortion channel and you have the cable plugged in to the amp and you touch the tip of the other end (a bit like a hum). anyway, it started making the noises in random intervals like a drunk guy on a machine gun.

i pulled the cable out of the amp and it carried on making the noises for about 15 seconds.

i then turned it off and left it for a while hoping it was a one off. i turned it on again about 30 mins ago and it seemed fine. i played for a bit and then turned it off and about a second after it went off, it made the noises again for about 5 seconds.

i'm really worried and i'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what might be the problem. could it be a loose connection in the amp? the cable? the electrics in the guitar?

also should i go and get it serviced? and if so can you recommend anyone near-ish cambridge?

thanks,

chris.

oh and if there's any details about it you need to know i'll be on here for about an hour.

I had something similar recently and it was a loose tube that lost contact when the amp was heating up. Remove the back panel and try moving the tubes, and see if they sit safely in their sockets.

beware of the high voltage !

all the tubes seems to be in place. is it possible it could be the tubes themselves?

theres a constant hum which has joined the random noises described above..
