last V
« on: December 10, 2007, 11:21:58 AM »
popped into croydon on saturday and picked up this flying v from a certain custom guitar maker. i've decided to call it 'number 7' - my 7th, last and best flying V. Lonnie Mack called his V the same, although his was the 7th V ever built in 1957.

its a nicely heavy, with a manly chunky maple neck. the sycamore body has a powerful mid-range, i notice my gordon smith V with the same wood has a similar property. i'll never buy another v, but if i do i'll be looking out for a sycamore body.

old stock from jonathan, not custom made for me. although if it would have been, i dont think i would have asked for much different, maybe a different colour... although frankly i've no idea what i'd ask for in a custom anyway :)

its chunky and not particularly fast, but this V has the most addictive neck on any guitar i've ever played, could hardly put it down all weekend. suits me very well. earvana nut seems cool actually - one can easily notice the improvement.

played the 'painkiller v' as well. very tasteful, but quite different to this one, hope someone buys that who appriciates it.

stole some pics from the feline site.

maybe its not my last.. i'd love a spalted maple one still.

kudos again to the neck of this guitar - not a fret buzz anywhere.

Love that Vee gwEm, very nice.

Didn't see that one when I popped into the shop, but I had a little noodle on the Painkiller Vee. That was very nice.

My favourite Feline guitar is Tim's Explorer.  PDT_010

Didn't take long to change your mind!

Lovely guitar, I've seen that one many times on the Feline website but not in the flesh.  Didn't realise what woods it was made from though.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

thank god considering the nice deal jonathan was offering!

500Ts, and they sound balanced. sycamore body gives more pokey midrange than they did in my gibson. might put cold sweats or miracle men in there when my bank account recovers.

sad indeed, but its somehow good as i won't get distracted. if i want to big up jonathan, i'll just have to shove the headstock into peoples faces :) its a big boy guitar, and outshines me as a player. i think you'd like it hunter.

I'd love to see a picture of the "gwEm stable" with all 7 on show.

I hope one day to get me a silverburst Vee. I've always wanted one of those.... :D

Oohhh I saw that on the Feline website the other day. That is a $%&#ing steal for that price, compared to the equivalent Gibson you could get for the same amount of cash.

was walking through croydon town center and this dodgy geezer stepped out of an dark alley with a guitar case under his coat. "want to buy a pukka V mate?" he said. i reckon i got proper skanked... looks like a rebadged stagg with a go-faster stripe.

(sorry jonathan!)

Even the most amateur player could tell both this and my '81 Greco are both nicer than my Gibson. Having said that the Gibson is still a very fine guitar, I think it will get better over the years... Nevertheless I still have a massive soft spot for my '58 Epi, its a shame, but playability-wise its been out classed by the Feline and the Greco.
