Despite Scott Gorham being extremely ill with flu Lizzy were excellent!
Also worth a mention is the support band Diamond Head-absolutely fantastic.
I grew up on Diamond Head but never had the chance to see them live and I'm so glad I have as they were firing on all cylinders last night.

I saw them last week and it was:

John Sykes - guitar and vocals
Scott Gorham - guitar and backing vocals
Tommy Aldrige - drums
Francesco DiCosmo  - bass

Aldridge was awesome  :D

Sykes was a bit too "Zakk Wylde" for me.  Gorham was great, as was DiCosmo.  The mix was a bit off too - loads of bass and not enough clarity.

Gorham with a Strat and Engl amps though?   :?:

My Dad is a huge Lizzy fan, and it's passed onto me. Live and Dangerous is in my top 5 albums, but The Boys are Back in Town is the worst song I've ever heard. Said Father has seen them a good few times recently, loved it each time.

Anyone seen the Gary Moore tribute thingy? Gets out Brian Robinson, Gorham and Eric Bell, Downey on drums too. Along with the best Les Paul tone known to man...

I only saw Lizzy during the last tour with Lynott, and they where pretty bad :(

Possibly my wife will buy me an early birthday present fr their gig on the 16th so I can have happier memorys of Lizzy.

Happily I have seen Eric Bell lots of times and can't recomend his playing highly enough
Goodbye London !

i was going to go to see them, but then queensryche cancelled their support slot (i think, anyway), and I went off the idea. Don't get me wrong, i love thin lizzy, but both would have been awesome!

I saw diamond head at the last megadeth gig i was at in northern ireland- very good. I wasn't familiar with their stuff (though had heard of them), and immediately bought their best of...

I saw Thin Lizzy a few years ago, whenever they toured last. Was a great show, would've liked to go to this one as I really like Diamondhead. When I saw them, Scott Gorham was using a black and white strat and what looked like a load of Marshalls of some kind (I think I remember someone on here saying they were 1987x's or something?). John Sykes had really bad tone, way too much gain and really muddy. They were good anyway regardless of that :)

I saw Lizzy back in 83 on the final tour and it was an excellent show.
The gig in Exeter by comparison was hard work for them as Scott was very ill-I mean he looked like he could hardly stand up and in fact actually left the stage in Boys Are Back. I've been in touch with him since and he said he was so bad he went straight to hospital so he did well lasting as long as he did.
Sykes held it together well-sure he's over the top with his playing but he's always been like that-remember he was out there doing it before Zakk ever appeared-and if you can do it, why not 8) ! I'm just pleased they're still out there playing all those great songs.

I am glad they are keeping the flame alight somehow. I saw them on the 'Black Rose' tour, with Gary Moore, Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Phil Lynott. It was as much a sing along as it was one hell of a rock gig. Not a dry eye in the house during "Still In Love With You" ...

I would have loved to see the Brian Robertson / Scott Gorham line up .

I did see Brian Robertson in his own band 'Wild Horses' about that time, so I had a taster of what might have been.

Happy days ...  8)

:D Like Tim I saw the band in `83. 1st at the Hammersmith Odean when all the old guitarists came out to play with the current lineup. Some of the tracks they played that night ended up on the Life/Live album.

2nd time was there final performance at Reading. Simply great. They should never have called it quits & i`ve always wondered what a follow up to the brilliant "Thunder & Lightning" would`ve been like........

Agree with Tim, Sykes was doing it long before Zakk Wylde ever was. Sykes auditioned for Ozzy before Ozzy took on Jake E Lee but due to the fact Sharon Osbourne couldn`t organise a piss up in a brewy there was no amp there for Sykes to play through so they ended up with him playing through an old HH transistor amp ! [ at this point those of us old enough to remember HH amps are grinching in the corner ]

Fair enough - shows what I know about John Sykes

Although he did over-do the pinched harmonics thang, even if he did do it before Zakk  ;)

I'm very glad to hear that actually as the Belfast gig was amongst the last 2 or 3 of that tour, so I guess that could be put down to a band needing to rest. I'm going to have to check the ticket stub to see if it was Sweet Savage (Vivian Campbells band at the time) or the Mamas Boys that where playing support than night

Hmmm, talking to Scott, could that mean Lizzy using a BK product ?
