An offering of tunes

BKPers,

I'd like to share three original tunes with you. They aren't indicative to how I play nowadays, as I have made the switch to Blues, but you can start to hear the transition somewhat on the tune '23 hours'. I'd like to give a brief description of each, and please share your music because I love listening to peoples' creations. These tunes were written four years ago as challeneges from another forum. We would pick a genre and one had to write an instrumental, which proved to be a great and valuable exercise often stretching me as a player. Warning: I'm no bass player, but I gave it a try on all tunes.

TR's Escape from the Raging Inferno:

Recorded using a Les Paul copy and a Marshall MG50DFX solid state amp. No microphone used, it was from the amps line out to the four track, using a Boss DS-1 distortion box, Boss DD-3 Delay and an original Cry Baby wah. This song is a rock instrumental in the vain of Joe Satriani. I was going for a big, singing melody and fast licks. The recording is rough because I'm no expert in recording. I got the title from a fellow who spoke on the aforementioned forum who lived in Colorado during the fires from the 2002-2003 time frame. His screen name was TR12.

23 Hours:

Same equipment as above. Listening to it nowadays, I can definitely say it is a rock player attempting the Blues. There are a few licks I like and others that need work. One day, I may re-record this since I'm a better blues player these days.

Ribs:

Same amp and effects, but used an Ibanez SA series guitar. My attempt at fusion of some sorts. In this experiment, I played a two chord vamp and gave it my best to modulate over the chords. If memory serves me correctly, the chords are Gmin7 and C7. Also, we gave each other a limit of two tries at a guitar solo, pick the best of the two, and present it to the forum, an example of being in the moment instead of working out the idea, trying to remain in the realm of creating/ improvisation/ thinking on one's feet, as most fusion is. The mix is horrible as the drums are too loud and the lead guitar is too low.

Good stuff mate, I really like "23 Hours".

Where did the drum loops come from?

Alesis SR-16, a beast to program.

I went from Marshal/ Les Paul copy (then) to Fender Deluxe/ Telecaster (nowadays). Thanks for the listen.

"TR's Escape from the Raging Inferno" sounds like a Buckethead song. Trust me, that's a goooood thing. ;)

Wasn't there a rumor that Paul Gilbert was Buckethead? I've never heard Buckethead's music.

Thanks for the cudos.

He's probably the single most technically gifted guitar player on the planet. Such wide-varying styles too, some of his stuff sounds a lot like Frank Zappa's instrumental stuff.

Yeah, there was a rumour that Slash was too - based entirely on hairstyle.

If you ever feel like checking him out, I can steer you in a saucy direction.  8)

I still appreciate that tune, and have it on my computer.

Thanks Roho!
