Actually i would get a decent amp first, the best guitar still sounds like sjeit trough a cr@ppy amp.

If it must be a guitar, i would go for a PRS or an older Gibson standard or even custom. They are simply a joy to play, hence the reccomendation.

Maybe a used standard from say the early 90's (which were very good) and a good orange amp, or laney amp? Would be doable and he will have a dream rig.

Playability >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tone.

Good playing Guitar - Much more important that good sounding amp.
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.

if it looked like camo it might be all right - or at least be an interesting idea.

That just looks like a bad finish.

There is a technique for enhancing the figure in flamed maple that involves staining the wood black but sanding most of it off before spraying your colour coat.  Its how they do finishes like Joe Perry's boneyard LP (the gibson version shows it done well the, epiphone doesnt)

The LP in the link looks like someone has done a very bad black and sand back finish - and i have seen enough bad examples to know what they look like.

Incedently i dont do black and sand back most of the time because whilst it makes the figure 'POP' it also kills the 3D effect you get from flamed maple.
