Author Topic: Any TC Electronics G-Sharp FX Users? (Read 5418 times)

Hey guys.

As I mentioned a while ago I'm slowly building up a small rack system and the next thing I need to decide on is an FX unit.

Alot of people have suggested the TC Electronics G-Major or various Rocktron units (Xpression, Intelliflex etc) to me as being common use Multi FX Processors. I was looking on the TC Electronics site last night for info and came across the G-Sharp/M-300 FX unit. I listened to the clips on the site and was quite impressed with the sound quality of them and I also like the relatively simple approach of these compared to other more indepth processors.

I was just wondered if anyone had any experience with these units and has any Pros/Cons of them compared to other similar spec fx units.

I have one and for the money I think it is an excellent peice of kit. It provides very professional effects and although it does not have the variation on the parameters or some of the tone shaping features of it's bigger brothers (the G Force and G System), you will be hard pressed to find better.

It's even updatable (in a fashion, you have to have a midi sound card that the system supports).

I'm about 90% sure I'll get 1 and that it'll do what I want, just wanted to hear from actual users of it 1st.

If you could afford it I would stretch to a G major....simply for the extra programmability , but the G Sharp does look easy to use which is always a good thing.

+1 for simplicity-a bandmate has two of them-easy to use knobs..nuthin' fancy..great effects-I have a G System and the effects are exact(that is for the ones they share)

Money isn't too much of an issue, but I really like the simplicity of the G-Sharp.

I have a pretty extensive pedalboard setup that I use when I'm after specific sounds (asin my 'originals' band) and the rack setup will be more of a 'general use' setup for my covers band.

For the music we'll be playing, I can't see me needing many extreme effects, so a G-SHarp should be ok I think. Just thought I'd check if anyone had experience with them before I pull the trigger :)

I've got one, and like it a lot.

I decided to go analog-only on the boost/overdrive/distortion front and digital for flexibility, hence the G-Sharp. I'm not so keen on the phaser, flanger and chorus, but then I don't tend to like those effects much anyway. The delays, reverbs, tremolos and vibrato are great.

I really like the clips of the various Reverbs from the G-Sharp I've heard on the TC Electronics site, which I think would be the main use of the pedal. I might use a bit of chorus or phase here and there, but aside from those, I don't think I'll need anything too elaborate :)

I am using a Lexicon MX200, which is in the same range and awesome effect quality and super neutral sound

I've been looking at the G-Sharp as well. I really dig its simplicity and I agree, the samples on the site sound excellent. I never really use that much fx anyway (my primary band plays melodic death), so it should suit me well.

However, I'm moving from a Pod XT live + solid-state poweramp to a real tube amp + rack setup, so I need at least a noise gate and a tuner as well. The G-Major has both of these built-in, whereas the G-sharp does not. Add the cost of the gate & tuner pedals to the G-Sharp and you're in the same ballpark with the G-major, cost-wise.

But I'm not sure I want a G-major. Sure, it has more bells and whistles than the G-Sharp, but I'm not sure if I need 'em. Also, its design must be at least 5 years old, right? I think it's been on the market for a long while. I could try find a used one, of course. And also, I think buying the gate / tuner separately would give me more flexibility in the long run. Having used the Pod XT as my primary tool for a couple of years now (student budget and all that...), I want something simple that sounds good, dammit ;)

Any thoughts?

well, one thing for sure, if you need a gate, i can vouch for the decimator-however, my g system has a gate, and I run it through my Boogie Coliseum, and I rarely use the gate-I know many metal players use gates for effect, but otherwise you might not have a noise issue-that is something to think about as you shop for tube amps-noise!sometimes it can be a loose fan...bad power supply...dimmer switches in the house...I would really give a used amp a good going over before slapping down the $$-I am happy with the gate in the g system, but the dec. pedal and rack system are very effective/user friendly! good luck

Yeah, let's see. It might even turn out I don't need a gate with the new setup, if the amp is quiet enough. Thanks for the Decimator tip, I'll check it out.

TC Build their products to be updated by the user. The fact that the G-System is 5 years old is negated somewhat by the regular patches that TC provide.

BTW... The reason why I am wanting to upgrade to the G-System is this...
