Emerald - High Gain clip
« on: December 18, 2007, 02:15:29 PM »
This is my (long overdue) first clip of my Emerald BKP'S.

Some information to go with it:

Guitar: Gibson Les Paul Classic
BKP: Emerald calibrated set
Gear: Recorded on a Boss BR-900, using onboard COSM effect 'HI GAIN LEAD'.
Playing: ... Basic and badly

I just went through a cycle of treble/middle/rhythm settings here. I start on treble. After that it should be easy to follow.

Clean and vintage clips are in the works as well and will follow soon.

The Emeralds are highly versatile but I was liking this sound, so it gets posted here first.

Did you get them installed at the tech part of Soundcontrol in Glasgow? There was a LP gettiing emeralds fitted when I went to pick up my Strat a few weeks ago.

Awesome clips, I'm looking to upgrade my LP next, Emeralds are on the list of possibles.

I can't see there being that many LP's getting fitted with Emeralds at that time, so if it was a Gold one, then yes it must have been mine.

I had the guitar refretted as well and I was quite impressed by the work, although they aren't exactly inexpensive.

All I remember was the pickups were gold covered and the LP was face down and had no binding. The dude installing them also showed me (on your pots too  ) how to earth stuff on the back of pots, the one soldering trick I haven't quite managed.

How about some clean clips? To me clean is where it's at. Word.

Ah ... hmm. My LP is fully bound and I got zebra covers.

Must be another Emerald user in Glasgow  :)

Clean as well as crunchy and vintage are in the works. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow. The Emeralds are rather powerful and tend to slightly overdrive any clean sound, when pushed - naturally.

I'll try and set the gains right, to get a nice clean sound.

Mutha fvckin WOW.  That sound is gorgeous, possibly the best tone or at least in the top ten that i have heard on this forum.  I have always questioned getting emeralds because they seem like they would be great for me, but you have just fully made up my mind.

By crunch do you mean a metally sounding clip?  I would like to hear the diversity of these babies!

Congrats man.

Cheers for that.

Well by crunch I mean inbetween clean and dirty but I'll happily put a full metal clip up as well. The BR-900 has a storming metal tone in it ... plus I just discovered that I can hook up my GT-6 to the BR-900  :o

I'm not a metal riffer thoigh, so it'll be pretty basic  :)

Too much fuzz for my taste, but I'm really liking the core sound here. Makes me wonder if I should have gone for the Emeralds anyway...
Maybe I can have another guitar when the funds are higher  :(

Im not sure about the neck, but the bridge ROCKS!

Ok this is definately the next on my list!

EDIT: after reading what is said before, this is definately not a 'clean' pickup IMVHO, it needs to RAWK HARD!

Thanks for posting that Machinehead.  :D

Those are seriously nice pickups !

They  certainly sound thicker and more mid rangey than the Mule - most becoming of a Les Paul , very classic rock  / 70s sounding.

I will certainly be looking forward to the 'clean' clips.

Cheers !
