I played a gig last night, at a large-ish venue in deepest Sussex. It was a pub restaurant and in deference to the diners we kicked off all nice and twee. After they'd buggered off, the owner ordered us to crank things up and we played at a very high volume. I cranked up the Laney VC30 kicked on the Jekyll & Hyde for the dirty (by my standards) settings or boosted by my trusty DHA WH1 purist for solos, gave my old Strat a pounding-even after having had them for 18 months, I can honestly say that I was blown away yet again and given my limitations as a bass player turned guitarist, I had a great night in terms of playing cos I have been playing a lot of gigs lately and I am starting to sound like a guitarist. I have a gig tomorrow night where I will not be able to play at that volume but I can't wait to play. Get a Start, get some Apaches and wig out. A pointless post for you metal loving gentlemen but for we single coil -well we can rock too you know. I have also switched to 11 gauge strings from 10's -harder work but for me, as a bassist, no too much of an issue and the payoff in thicker tone is well worth it.
