Nailbomb does Killswitch Engage
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:10:42 AM »
Hi guys, been a while since I posted a clip, so hope this makes up for it!

I decided I wanted my band to cover The End Of Heartache by Killswitch Engage for our live set, but our tuning is half a step higher than the original and I can only just get the high notes as it is. So I recorded this cover at home to see if I could push my vocals higher, and it turned out that I really liked the way my Nailbomb came across on the track.

The track is all Nailbomb apart from the clean part near the end.

Equipment used: BC Rich Warlock loaded with a Nailbomb at the bridge (an inferior brand at the neck, heh), Pod XT Live, Cubase SX running Groove Agent for drums.

All live instruments and vocals by me.

Hope you enjoy my straining bad voice-ness, lol! (And please bear in mind, this was done on my cheap cr@ppy home setup and only basic editing tricks were used. And I forgot how some of the lyrics went too, lol!!!)

Cheers guys! I'm always surprised at the fact that even though my equip is not great I can still get something that passes as listenable, heh. but then I guess tech these days is pretty good even on the cheaper stuff.

sounds great (good job on the vocals)
but the gutiars are way too far back in the mix.
they sound good but too distant.
can I be the devil on your shoulder?

Patterns, that brought a smile to my face, hehe!

Kmanick, yeah they are a bit quiet, I might revise it a tad and repost if I have the time this week.

Trying to get the mix right on my computer is pretty tough, and because I know Guitarists tend to sub-conciously mix guitars too high, I think I over compensate and mix it a tad too low.

Just to add, I recorded this to see if I could sing it in our band's resident key (C#, which is half a step higher than the original) so we could fill out or live set with some covers. Unfortunately I have found that I can sing it if it's the only thing I am singing that night, but if I am singing too long before this song I can't reach the notes, lol. It's really hard as it's literally at the very top of my range. I can sing it fine in the original key, but this is just a tiny step too far upwards.
