hi after getting my mules for my les paul
I'm planning to change the pickups for my 52 USA Telecaster.
I have contacted tim, and he told me to get blackguard /50 flat.
I couldn't find any sound samples though    anyway.I would love to hear opinions about this pickup. I told tim I was looking for a warm punchy 50s original telesound. I love that "popping" tele sound but I don't like thin sounding pickups, nor high squealing sound... I was thinking of duncan antiquity tele pickups , but I convinced myself to Bare Knuckles. :P  so any ideas ? :)

We have a set of flat pole Black Guards on a 62' reissue custom tele. We haven't explore it to its full potential yet( extremely busy ). Our opinion might not be of help due to: 62' reissue rosewood fretboard and body, alder which is different than yours. We installed vintage Rs guitarworks electronics, the caps are Jensen 0.015, these came out on a conversation with the tech, who luckily has worked over the years on lots of telecasters some of which were original 1950 to 1952( repairing, etc.), so his input and direction were most helpful. To remind you, this a totally different guitar, I gather that yours would be closer to home. The outcome was a total surprise because I had Roy Buchanan in mind on the wrong guitar, the tech was surprised by the tone( he wrote an essay about it :lol: ). The tone is closer to an early Jimmy Page, with a twist, warmer, do not have the tele high pitch spank, more of a blues and rock guitar than country, a four way switch, stock wound, compensated saddles, vintage tele pots, and jensen caps for a woody tone. We haven't explore it to its full potential, but so far the instrument looks out there. I would like to get the '52 tele and put another set of BG. Phil King has a set also. Good luck!

I have a set on on 57 tele.  They are amongst my favourite Tele pickups.  I like a rock tele sound though.  At LGS last year we had a stagger pole black guard set on a reissue (I think - might have also been a Warmoth - it was a while back!), and the I think bridge is a little brighter but without hearing them side by side it is hard to say.  For the Roy Buchanan sound on a maple neck tele, Tim had recommended the Boss set.  In my Rosewoods I have the Brown Sugar and Piledriver bridge pu's.  The flat pole neck is a little more strat like and again this is what I like (I have a Slowhand neck with the Piledriver).  I had Duncan Antquities and way prefer the Black Guards.  I also put the 4-way switch on the tele with them - this gives the additonal setting with both pickups in parallel.
