BK-pups for my Jaguar?
« on: January 23, 2008, 02:58:55 PM »
Hi there,

Did anyone here actually got BK-pups (custom made) for their jaguar?
I'm curieus if BK makes these.

I own a '65 jaguar with non-original MIJ pups, and they are horrible. I cannot use this guitar in my band, using (high) gain or high volumes.
I replaced the MIJ-pups for SD antiquities, but the problem remains the same: squeels all over the place.

I own a Strat with SlowHands: no problem at all. Is it possible to have BK Irish Tour/Slow Hand-style on a Jaguar pup?
(I'm not a sucker for that 'real' Jag-sound, I want to play)

thanks in advance,
Dweezman

Hi there, welcome to the forum :)

I'm not sure whether you can get BK jag pickups, but you could always get Tim to rewind your current ones...

yeah, either get tim to rewind them or get some normal singlecoils fitted which may need a bit of extra work

cutting off the backbobbins? I'm afraid I destroy the whole thing... Maybe BK can modify them, don't know.

These Antiquities weren't exactly cheap, and they're brand new. Rewinding those seems, ehm.. strange. (maybe waxpot them?)

Rewinding cheap pups gives me still cheap pups with good windings...

what to do?

But from what I understand, the winding plays a massive role in the sound of the pickups. Decent quality wire wound professionally should improve the tone in a big way I'd imagine.

Really though, you should call or email Tim and see what he suggests.

it would need a bit of extra work on the guitar rather than the pickup.

I think the scratchplate holes would need widening slightly to fit normal single coils

the holes for the pickups in the body may need a little bit of work as well

antiquities are meant to be pretty decent quality (not that i've tried them myself). why not just wax pot them? you can do it yourself or have tim do it.
