Band flyer - need some help
« on: January 27, 2008, 04:26:56 PM »
hey all, I am really not a designer, neither a native English speaker, nor very experienced with recent band A&P materials (last time I did this kind of stuff was around 1990)

Please some feedback on this design (outside and inside of 1 A4 sheet, folded in the middle for horizontal use):

The playlist. Present some well known ones, so they stick out and people will, theoretically be like: WOW!

Than to just skim over it.

The title, or 'cover page' needs to look interesting, it's the first thing they're most likely going to be looking at.

I've done a fair bit of design work on newspapers, magazines and adverts, so here's my two cents: I'd suggest bringing up the font size of 'The Gutbusters' across the top of the first page, so that it runs across the full width, like a newspaper or magazine masthead/title. I'd also suggest changing the yellow text to white, as the pics are quite yellow in tone.

Two small English points  - You don't need to say 'guarantees for an awesome night'; 'guarantees an awesome night' covers it fine. In the singer's bio, it should say '80s emo bands' not '80 emo bands'. Assuming it's supposed to say he likes 1980s emo bands of course.

Other than that, looks good. Nice and clean, not fussy or over-complicated.
Warpigs.

Hey thanks, that's great feedback, exactly what i was looking for.

Yeah I'll try white (or very light grey) - better contrast and indeed, too much yellow.

Great stuff! I love BKP forumites !!

I'd make the band name bigger and maybe in a different font so it stands out from the rest of the cover. Other than that I dont know what else to say. Maybe un-italicise some bits of text (the band name definitely), it kinda loses its impact when everything is in italics :P

I really like out band's fliers, looks awesome when printed onto 6x4 non-glossy photo paper. Our bassist is the manager of a large Jessops shop...

Funny....or sad?

I really like the flyer - think it looks good. I even like the yellow text as it is... Maybe change the band name to white and leave the rest yellow??

i think indy has a good point.

maybe reduce the playlist a bit, heres some ideas:

just show the genres of music (Rock'n'Roll, Classic Metal, Blues, Hard Rock, Grunge, Indie etc)
just show the band names you'll be covering

you could pick the top five or six items to include. by making the list smaller and more general, you'll have more impact, and it also means you can change your setlist a bit and leave the flyer still valid.. and you keep an element of surprise ;)

another idea might be to put the playlist in non-alphabetical order.

in general i think its a cool flyer though

I'd put something like "Featuring songs by.." instead of "some of the music we play", sounds better to me :)

Thanks a lot to my recently-turned-acoustic-avatar-wise friend.

I did have some trouble finding the right wording there indeed, you spotted it!

i would 'sex-up' the gutbusters logo font a bit - then i'd say you're there.

looks great, i'd go to see you if the cover charge was right :)
