Help. Single coil DC resistance to match CWP set in HSH...?
« on: January 28, 2008, 04:16:12 PM »
Hi, I have a Ceramic Warpig bridge/Warpig neck for my next guitar... it's going to be the new 24 fret Ibanez S5470TKS. It has an HSH pickup config, and I want to get a nice clean strat middle single coil to put in the middle here for a single coil mainly for cleans.

My question is, what kind of DC resistance should I be looking to get? I might not be going with bareknuckle here, so I just want to have a good idea of what kind of output I should have for the middle single coil so that it matches up well with the humbuckers when they are split with coiltapping.

I think the bridge pickup is something like 22k dc and neck 16k dc.... which would make them roughly 11k dc and 8k dc when coiltapped. Is this correct? Would I be correct in thinking I should get a single coil in the 9-10k area to have the output match well with the humbuckers when coiltapped?

I just want volumes to match well and be able to have a nice single coil sound available for cleans. I wanted this kind of setup so the guitar would be really versatile.

Too many variables. DC on its own isnt a measure of a pickups balance against other pickups.

If you ask about specific pickups then we can answer from experience with the combinations. (there are those that would think it rude to use up Tims bandwidth and server space with non-BK pickup recommendations, though: there are hundreds of general music sites ;))

Some people would be a litlte overly sensitive then. I was just trying to get an idea of what kind of output on a single coil I'd need to match up with my ceramic warpig set. I don't really think that's rude...

A recommendation of which BKP middle single coil would fit best would atleast be nice...

Or maybe I shouldn't even bother with getting one that matches output and just look for one that strictly sounds really nice clean? I don't know. I think it'd probably be better if it matches roughly the output of the warpigs coiltapped....

The most important thing how loud the pikcup is. In that, mids are very important. You canget away with near any DC resistance in matching a single to a humbucker if its got a good mid push and maybe willing to set it closer to the strings.

If cleans are what you want from this SC, I'd say Irish Tour

I had the same dilemma with my HSH. I wanted a CS in the neck and a nailbomb in the bridge. I wasn't sure what in the middle though........ I just ended up ordering a middle irish tour. They haven't arrived yet, but I'll let you know the results once I've put them in.

I talked to Tim about it, and I'm selling off my used set of ceramic warpigs and ordering a custom calibrated HSH set roughly based on the ceramic warpig bridge humbucker, trilogy suite middle single coil, and a cross between the alnico warpig and a coldsweat in the neck. My order is going in within the next few days. Should be nice!
