Head/Cab or Combo
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:45:03 AM »
K im thinking about getting a spidervalve and was just wandering if it would be worth getting the 112 40watt combo or getting the 100 watt head (i already have a 212 cab by Randall.

Its really just for bedroom use and recording but i was just wandering what difference would it make depending on getting the combo or the head?

Oviously there would be a loudness difference but i was planning on getting a Hotplate to tame it anyway?

P.S. the combo is bout £100 cheaper

I personally prefer head/cabs but a combo is way easier to transport.

Great point. £100 pound less and easier to lug around.

Any other pros and cons anyone can think of.

combos are cooler, and you don't need the extra power produced by a 100W head.

I'm not sure the spider valve is the right choice though. I hated and despised that amp when i tried it

I'd prefer to use a closed back cab with whatever, just for the low end. So its a question of slapping a combo on top or a head.

I'd go for the combo, especially if you're not gigging.  Although if you're planning on gigging soon, the head may be a better option as it's louder and has more spread through a 2x12.

I used to think heads were generally lighter than combos .... that is until I bought an AC30 head !!!!
People say that combos are moe portable, but I disagree. I'd rather lug a load split into two pieces (ie. head & cab) than the same load as one piece (combo). But then, I'm 41. Some of you young guns might have slightly more testosterone than me.  I gotta be careful with my old joints !
