I've played a few Private Stocks and limited edition PRSi (about 40) - a very good friend of mine has one of the biggest collections of PRSi in the country - around 80. These include many of the Private Stocks in the PRS guitar book (including PS No. 86 which I think it one of the most stunning guitars I have ever seen and a large body hollow body - only 2 were ever built and Joe Knaggs is on record as saying these are the best guitars he has ever built).

I've played some that have absolutely floored me (PS 288 springs to mind - that is the best guitar I have ever played) but some that make you wonder that other than the pretty top, what are you getting that is better than a stock one? Another friend of mine had a PS Custom 24 that was a dog of a guitar. Tonally dead.

Myself, I have a Signature and I am happy with that.

If you look at the values that many go for in the UK, second hand around £3k - £4k for a private sale and around £3.5 - £6 for shop sales. As with any guitar though, if you are serious about spending that sort of money try before you buy, and be 100% sure you want it.

Also new Private Stock guitars do not make good investments either. Expect around £2 to £3k of the value to be wiped off immediately. Long term, well personally I don't expect these guitars to acrue in value unless it is something very special or has provenance.

Well the GAS struck again this weekend.

Not what you might expect though :oops:

Anyway this is a very nice early 70's Sonor "The Swinger" 8) set, all in very good condition, very gently used over the years. The snaredrum is not original, some recent cheap snare, but its fine for now. Complete with quality hihat and ride, for the 'attick clearance giveaway' kind of price.

Very nice recording kit by the way since it is unusually well dampenend naturally(6 ply birch kettles). I kind of was thinking of building a 'music room' in my attic at some point, really like that idea.

Anyway, im having a super workout! :drums:

Quick setup though, a little kit like this has the advantage to put everything up in one line, which is pretty nice.

Its kind of frustrating because i can play allmost everything with my hands, but my kicks are just cr@p. Playing the guitar certainly gave me a jump start IMO. Well not the really fast stuff obviously, but i wasnt planning on becoming a metal drummer anyway.

Im off to get better sticks today(now have those mini tip jazz sticks :oops: ) and maybe a new skin for my floortom, there are now the remo USA 'weatherking' skins on the toms and i hope they still have those, cant find them online though......

The only downside of drumming is that i now want a good snaredrum, the one in the set seems to be a Sonor international, and allthough it kind off fits the set nicely for a funky/jazzy style i want something deep and more fat too.

Oh and Noodle, i think this guy just played it at home once in a while, even the Meinl hihat has only one small ding in the rim. Its definately a plus the original bass skin is in such good shape IMO.
