Band recording using Nailbomb + EMG 81
« on: February 03, 2008, 01:06:13 AM »
Hey, thought I would post up a new band for all to listen to! We are from a new-town in Scotland called Livingston (just outside Edinburgh), and have just finished recording our first demo track which can be found on;

http://www.myspace.com/acacmusic

Guitar wise, we used an Ibanez RGA 121 with Bareknuckle Nailbombs and an Epiphone Les Paul fitted with an EMG 81 in the bridge, all into an ENGL Powerball.

Any comments or discussion welcome!

Cheers.

Sounds really good *thumbs up*

The vocalist reminded me of The Simpsons character 'Mayor Joe Quimby'.

Ahahah! Probably the best comment I've ever heard about the vocals!

i could not take more than a mere second of that vocalist before having to immediately close the tab, wow.  But at least what i *heard* of the guitar tone sounded really well done, very clean, very well produced - its just those vocals...  :?

Hah!  I get the Mayor Quimby reference!!!

Great sounding guitars.  Reminds me of the '80s somehow...  That may just be the vocals though.  Something a little New Wave about them.

Not normally my style, but damn, I thought it was pretty cool. Its funny how you are using EMG's and a Powerball for that though  :o  One of you obviously has heavier leanings? As for the Vocalist, I think the slight vocal trait probably has more to do with the Scottish accent coming through slightly?

Hey, cheers for the kind words! Yeah, we've had mixed feedback about the vocals, I suppose us Scots do have a bad habit of slurring our speech and such too! And yeah, you pretty much hit the mark on one of us having heavier leanings!

I'm not sure of the exact settings, the powerball is the other guitarist's (I only have a wee baby Screamer 50) but I can tell you we used channel 3 with the gain about 4/10

i have no problem with the odd Scottish slur, however, the whiny emo vocals i just can't take.

To be fair, I didn't consider those vocals whiny, unique yes, but hardly in the same league as some of the terrible Emo- whines around today. He hardly needs to bring the 'brootulz' now does he? Good sh*t anyway.

re-listened, and i do confirm that they are a whine; maybe an unusual uncharacteristic-of-emo-whine but whiny and, to my tastes, intolerable nonetheless.  They are pretty knee deep in emo with just the vocals alone, regardless if you classify them as a whine or not.  In any case, there is no need to bringah da br00talz, but a simple nicely sung, unstressed-vocal-chord passage would do.  On the br00talz note, there are plenty of Death Metal and Black Metal vocalists that are shite, Grindcore pig vocals while amusing become quite annoying, pretty much all Metalcore is shite by default.  It really depends on the band, i mean any good vocalist will have a characteristic sound, but then there is just the grating intolerable vocals of the above mentioned disciplines, and again it all depends.  In any case, my original statement still stands, well produced and great guitar tone.

Thought I would add that another song has been put up (Grey Square Symphony) which has the same recording set up as the last. Again, please discuss any thoughts!

Hope you will enjoy it!

very well produced material! professional, I really don't see what's bad about the vocals, I quite like them actually. I can't really say anything bad about it, it's not perfect though. lol anyhow I like your guitar sounds quite original, almost has a japaneze gaming sound to it, very cheezy but in a good way!  :P
