Author Topic: Urgent Tail piece help needed (Read 5292 times)

Alright guys.

I've got an order in the other explorer window and it's with axesrus, which if last night is anything to go by will delete itself any minute now.

I need to order some bushings for the stop tail piece posts to go into. I have the stop piece and some posts but they're a bit fat. The holes in my axe are 10mm and these busings are 11.5mm at the bottom and 12mm at the knurled bit.

Now here is what I think is the crux of the situation. The ones that I have, don't appear to sit flat with the guitars surface if I pushed them in. They have a ring on the top that sits proud of the body. I'm fairly sure that I need the bushings that fit flush with the body. Anyone know where I can get these from in the UK. I've tried phoneing axesrus but they must be round the back smoking and a couple of sites that I've been on are fairly non-specific. I don't mind buying the posts with the studs as the ones I've got are a bit too tight in the tail piece anyway.

I'd hang fire with the order.

It sounds like you need to remove the existing studs from the body to check their dimensions and design so you can order the appropriate replacements. It may also be that your current studs are fine, but the routing in the body is incorrect and needs fixing.

However we possibly have the ones you need (no lip that sits on the body)

They normally need an 11mm drilled hole although sometimes we have to use an 11.1mm or even an 11.2 to make it bigger if the hole is too small and the wood is very hard

We also keep the Tonepros locking versions that clamp down on the tailpiece itself (@£26)

Ooops maybe should have made this bit a little clearer. There are no studs in the body as it stands. The guitar is a Patrick Eggle Berlin built in about 1996.

A while back, my mate had a dealing and ended up with 3 guitars that had been in the back of the factory for about 10 years and he ended up selling one to me. It's got no hardware on it at all (not even the retainer holes drilled for the sperzels). The guitar had been finished sanded but just needed buffing. I think it may have been in the back as you can see a tiny scratch in the lacquer (going in small circles) which looks like it was caused by one of the finishing processes. You have to look bloody hard though.

I don't really fancy drilling into the axe if I can help it.

From that date I would suggest emailing Trevor Wilkinson as he had been involved with Eggle for quite some time and supplied a lot of the bridges.

Theres also a few ex eggle employees and the like over @ http://www.patrickeggleguitars.org/ (if you arnt already a member) who should be able to advise

Yeah, I'm a member over at at the Patrick Eggle site and I'll ask the question over there

I know that I did have a pair of the bushes that would fit, but we've been doing loads to the house and now I can't find them

But on the bright side, I know they exist.

After some thinking, I'm going to break out the drill. Hopefully they'll be some point over the weekend when I'm sober enough to do some work on it - goddam 6 nations :?

Off to the shed to find a suitable piece of scr@p to check hole sizes. Expect photo's shortly.

Well, progress has been made. I've ordered an imperial drill bit that works out at 11.1mm in real figures, so I'm going to redrill the holes for the bushings and install them at the end of the week when the bit arrives.

I've installed the pups and rings, electronics, TOM, tuners and jack plate. It just has to be wired up and set up now (neither by me). I also need to make the cavity covers and do some more poishing.
