Yet another N00B question from me (pot wiring)
« on: February 10, 2008, 05:21:07 PM »
So I've been reading a lot of the tech section of the forums. (I am very very interested in these things! I don't know much.. but I would love to learn!)
So, I opened up my guitar to see what mine was like.. (Jackson Dk2m Dinky- everything stock) and from the looks of it, mine is a "tone-sucking" wiring.
I would like to do it as "vintage wiring" from - http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10528

but as I've said, I am a complete noob at guitar electronics..
I would love some help! I really have no idea what to do.. so many wires....

Don't know how you are planning on wiring it up, but here is an excellent article on vintage Les Paul wiring that you may want to read. Very informative:
www.singlecoil.com/docs/paula.pdf

I play Les Paul's, but your guitar is a dual humbucker and I would assume the same rules apply.
There is also a thread about half a page down with a sticky icon next to it that discusses the differences between vintage and modern wiring. You should take a look at that.
My own opinion is that vintage wiring is the way to go, retaining the highs better and staying very transparent. Then again, it really depends on you guitar and own personal tastes. :)
