Cheap single single coil guitar
« on: February 10, 2008, 09:57:48 PM »
So I have a BG pickup single sized P90 lying around, and I want something cheap to put it in. Is there anything out there with a single bridge single coil? Or would my best be be to pick up a cheap squier and bopping a new scratchplate on it?

Do you really want to buy a new guitar just to use a spare pickup?  :?

I'd sell the pickup.  Or were you planning on getting a new guitar anyway?

I want a new guitar to bash about... I really liked the sound of this pickup, and I have to sell the guitar it was in to fund my uber-powerful tele... Is there not a cheapish Gibson/Epi re-issue with a single coil in the bridge?

Yeah, you're right, there's a Melody Maker re-issue.  I thought they were really super-cheap a couple of months ago but now they seem to be going for about £300.  Not sure if the pickup is exactly the same size as a Fender single-coil though.

is it a strat-sized pickup which is meant to sound like a p90, or vice-versa? wasn't completely clear from the original post... :)

Ah I was looking for them. Look horrible. Might forget about it now. Thanks though. It's a strat sized p90 pickup donated by Tom, just want a home for it. I'll wait and maybe pimp a squier.

 I know what you mean, but I like them.  But Lord knows, I've bought more than enough guitars just recently.
