Fat Strat? PAH! Meet a Fat Tele...
« on: February 12, 2008, 12:58:00 PM »
Booya! After deciding Strats weren't for me and I have a love of telecasters I bought a MIM Tele and attacked it with a hand drill. Voila, one Holydiver later and it rocks like a beast. Two volume controls, a 500k for the HD and a 250 for the stock single. Neck pickup will either get BKP'ed or ripped out to make an uber-sexy Esquire.

And it's opposite together. Racial harmony at it's finest.

Well I love playing teles. The controls are in the perfect place for me and the body is surprisingly comfortable for a flat slab of wood. Very tempted to put a black scratchplate on it, not really a fan of the white, especially since the body and scratchplate are different shades of white...

Nice tele!

Here's mine, though you might not like my control layout (I have none, just an empty plate with a mini toggle).

It's a total hack job compared to yours, though!

Sorry you can't see the humbucker in the pick. PDT_008

Looking good. There is something so right about Tele's-good honest no nonsense guitars that you can depend on.

Agreed!

Mine are all a bit swankier, with binding and stuff - but I didn't really plan it that way, I just sort of ended up with them somehow.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Mmmm binding! I want a few more I think. Something with binding and a rosewood neck and Baja styled rock tele. Gar! It seems boring but me I'd be perfectly happy with a collection of teles. Oh and something like Jeff Beck's Duncan tele, standard tele with two humbuckers and contours.

That saying, I do miss having a strat to noodle around with, might stick one together when I can afford it. Gilmour's black strat with Apaches. Yum.

I always wanted a tele to mess around on, but keep getting caught up in Strats. If I were to get one, it would be like Bens. Metal!

thanks philly. i have vague recollections of seeing kotzen in some advert with a tele with a bridge humbucker, though... maybe an older model? of course, it's entirely possible i just imagined it...

You could be right - before he switched to Fender he was using Ibanez then Starfield guitars which were sort of Tele-shaped, some might have had HBs but I can't find any good pics.  Even the Ibanez "Tele" on the cover of Electric Joy has single-coils.

I've got an old DiMarzio catalogue with a pic of him with a Starfield - but he's in a pool(!) and most of the guitar is underwater! (can't have done much for the pickups...   ).
