Les Paul advice/pointers needed

Someone may be able to offer me some good advice. I really love the look of Les Pauls, only problem is that I struggle with the necks on them. Can anyone tell me if there is a Les Paul (or Les Paul copy) that has a neck profile similar to a '57 reissue strat (my favourite neck shape), or would I be looking at a custom build?

I'm not too worried about weight - I just need a nice thin neck. I have tried the 50's and 60's neck one many LPs and can't seem to get on with any of them.

I think ESP does a single cut that's "similar" to a Les Paul with a thinner neck.  I'm sure others will chime in with more...

So with a '57 Strat you're talking V shape?  

AFAIK there's no Les Paul that's anything like that.  I think I've read that some Dean necks are V shaped, but I may have that completely wrong.

My Epiphone LP Custom has a pretty thin neck. Twinfan said the neck on the pearl I bought off him was pretty slim but it feels huge compared to my Epiphone :lol:

I wouldn't describe a '57 Strat neck as "thin" though - it's narrow at the nut and doesn't feel big due to the V shape, but it's quite deep.

i tried a JJ LP-alike which had a v-shape neck (according to the dude in the shop, and it did feel like one, though neck profiles aren't exactly my strong point).

Of course, that's liable to be almost as much as a custom build, and doesn't look exactly like a les paul...  :lol:

I have been thinking about this too. I love the LP weight and feel, but can't get on with the short scale necks (compared to Fenders anyway). Try a Warmoth neck and body?

USA deans have the V neck profile. a USA soltero would be a good choice if it was the single cut idea as opposed to the actual gibson les paul look.

maybe a PRS SC with wide thin neck? Although all mine are normal necks but hear is quite a difference.
Also, if not liking the 24 + - scale, how bout a 25" scale.

You're probably right Phil. It maybe is just the rounder necks I have issues with - the V shape on the 57 reels really nice in my hand and does feel thinner in my opinion (it may not be but it feels like it is or should be!)

+1, the satin single cuts are the dogs love plumbs.

You may have to wait a little while for the wide thin ones to start to filter through, not sure about that though

I played a Singlecut Satin recently and wasn't that impressed to be honest.  It was nice, but I didn't think it was nice enough for £1600.  Maybe I played a rare below-par example?

The Signature LPs have a nice slim neck, as does my Tokai Love Rock Relic currently for sale at £550......   :wink:

Yeah my Signature's neck is definitely slimmer than other LPs I've tried.


Although if the Fender has a really specific profile and size, and that is 100% what you want, then maybe custom really is the best way to go.
