Author Topic: Can I replace a normal switch by a foot switch? (Read 4548 times)

Just doing some thinking - I would love to make the loop of the VintageModern that is on the way to me footswitcheable (it is hand switcheable right now).

At the moment it's one of those Marshall style push/push buttons.

Can it easily be replaced by a Jack socket and can I do it keeping the pushpush switch functional? Also wanna make sure it's not gonna impact the sound of the amp in any way.

Maybe of help is this gut shot (switch is one of the 2 push/pushs bottom right)

Those panel switches are activating the relays inside the amp (i.e. electrical switching). It can be done for sure - take it to a tech who's good with SS switching stuff.

Scr@p that - I thought you were talking about the front panel switches.

The loop itself has a true-bypass switch that works in exactly the same way as a stombox true-bypass.

To put that function on a footswitch, you would need to add relay switching. I think Weber and Hoffman both offer ready-made PCBs for this type of thing.

That's where the bad story is, I don't know a good amp tech in Belgium. At least there is none with a web site but I googled the flesh off my fingers and couldn't find one

hmm, or otherwise I would actually send the signal through the footswitch/cable which would be like having an A/B box on the floor, right?

Looking on multimap, it's a decent drive but doable (Vleuten, Utrecht)

That is PERFECT, he is just 15KM away from Haar Guitars. Problem is I'll drop the VM and pass by Eric vdHaars and might end up with a custom built Tele or a Bogner amp or something stupid LOL.

To do it that way you'd be sending the signal out your amp to a 'bypass box' then back in again (not good, hence my suggestion for relay switching).

Just to add one, maybe not the best but certainly the biggest amp tech shop in the Neatherlands is Dr. Tube. For a fairly simple job like this i think they would be fine. The have a shop in Zeeland(Monster) which is close to Belgium(Knokke rules! :drink: ).

Maybe will be of use since i doubt they do the mod wile you wait.........

Huh this one's close, Brussels is pretty much Brabant.

I'll do the rehearsal like is and then see whether I still need the mod, then call all the alternatives and see who makes the best impression. Thanks for all the hints!
