Some of your favorite guitar work???
« on: February 17, 2008, 05:04:33 AM »
Here's some of mine:
Paul Gilbert:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vS6syL0-jM
Andy McKee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4
And for you Nintendo heads out there...
Chris Kline:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5JlGQ5orL8
                   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDllKN9V6fo

I'm sure I could make this list a mile long... There's a lot of good stuff, but those come to mind first.  Anyone else have any favorites?  (Not necessarily from YouTube)

Currently Son House  - the source of the blues - his fingerstyle slide technique is brutal (SRV was a pussy compared to Son House hitting grade 16 strings with his bare flesh)

(OK its not that technical but sound pretty good to me)

Back in 1974 I recorded a radio show that would introduce me to a life-long
Guitar hero (Rory Gallagher).  Rory Gallagher's Walk on Hot Coals brought shear listening ecstasy to my ears.... Now 34 years later I still listen in amazement.
Rory was a rare talent who never sold out.

Any note bent by Gary Moore.

Although to get the full effect you need to see his face too...

I'm really trying to hold back from posting a whole barrage of videos, so I'm limiting myself to just three (...ok, four)... for now

I have to start with a clip of the guys from SikTh. I first got into them when I saw them playing a clinic similar to this one. From that day I have been constantly wowed by their musicianship and ability, both individually, and even more so when playing together as a pair. No matter how close I think I get to nailing one of their songs, watching this video makes me feel hopelessly inadequate. Even if you're not a metal fan, I urge you to watchi this:

SikTh clinic

Secondly, Andy Timmons has to be the most tasteful player I've come across. His note-choice is sublime, and the guy packs so much expression into his playing it's unreal. I've chosen two of his videos, one being one of my all-time favourite guitar instrumental pieces, the second being what I hold up as my holy-grail of non-metal tones:

Super 70's
BB preamp demo

Finally, this clip of Reb Beach had a profound impact on me a few years ago when I was starting to get into lead playing. It's the intro to his instructional VHS from the 80s, which i had but lost a couple of years back to an unscrupulous pupil of mine. I only just found this clip up on youtube, and watching it again it's funny to see how many staple licks of mine are nicked from it:

That Sikth vid is GREAT.

Seen it before - And was just as amazed that time.

And a good advert for BKPs!!

The ebony top B2 halfway through the vid is fitted with nailbombs if I remember right.
