'the real Gibson guitars aren't set up that great either'   How finking true...

I like the guy - he obviously needs less oxygen than the rest of us, but he speaks true.  A good thing in this age.

Got to the end of the vid and was a bit disappointed - he didn't play the Gibbo!  Shame, it would have been a really nice comparison otherwise.

Still, I thought that the Epi sounded really good.

What is that Gibson he has?  The inlays are strange and I've never seen an LP with that kind of Fender 3-tone sunburst.

I know it's the Gibson, but the style of it looks like the new Epi Slash signature model.

and upside down truss rod cover too. Is it one of those anniversary type things?

i think the truss rod cover is his own "cool" affectation.  i'd say the Gibson is from the early to mid nineties, that finish and those inlays are the same as a Nighthawk custom, it may have been a limited edition built around the same time.

thing is, we're none the wiser about how the Epiphone sounds.  He was using so much distortion that it could have been just about anything.

The gibson's quite good

The epiphone is also good, but not quite as good.

it was actually a decent video, but i didn't like that

(a) he used a spider... that'll make most guitars sound similar

(b) he made it sound like "heavy" (weight) = good

(c) he made it sound like "hot" = better pickups.

But certainly worth the watching, i wasn't looking at the clock like i am with some vids posted online- even if you didn't agree, he was interesting (despite being a little scary, as I mentioned earlier   ).

Holy moly I thought the guitar was just floating around by itself for the first 20 seconds..... then I noticed his left hand propping it up... that was scary.

Anyway... yeah. Nice.

Yeah, he was talking very much in terms of personal preferences.  I hope no-one would use it as a shopping guide.  But I enjoyed his playing, cheap Chinese guitar into a digital amp or not...

To someone with little experience this video answers alot of questions i think. Especially the staying tuned part is pretty important when your starting out i think. And for that group of people the higher grade Epi's(he said the chinese were cr@p) are perfect to start with IMO. Still kind of a dud he didnt play the Gibson for a bit, but probably just as well, more Gibsons for ME!!!! :P

Digital FX, like in the spider, do make guitars sounds similar, wich is exactly why they work so well with cr@p guitars.

Oh and Dave, heavy weight=better, everyone knows that!
