My two bands are on Myspace and we have found it useful to be able to give the address to potential clients and it enables those foolish enough to follow the band to know where we are gigging. I have my own simple page and have a few real mates plus a few "friends" where I have firstly checked out their own pages to see if their music is remotely any good and where it is, I am happy to add them. I have the usual celeb sites and in one or two cases I know or have at least met with the person concerned. But  prefer the banter we all enjoy on the forum here and as long as it remains civilized, respectful and funny I will stick around.
Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance

I much prefer the BKP forum
I have made a lot of contacts, new customers and become buddies with quite a few of you. (Never got that at Myspace)
As JT says -it also means we meet up at gigs or guitar shows etc which is cool  (Curry sounds good as well)

+1 on that - the BKP forum is quite unlike any other I've been on (and I've been a net-nerd since '96).

In all the years I've been on myspace I've only made one real friend that I wouldn't have met otherwise.

+ another, at least on forums you know it will be reasonably like minded people, and you can give as much or as little of yourself as you want. I'm quite willing to believe facebook is an information harvesting tool... but it goes along the lines of asking if you are a member of a terrorist organisation at US immigration... how dumb do they think people are?

It does contravene the Data Protection Act - personal info should only be kept for as long as necessary...and if you are no longer using the site, it's no longer necessary, so you should be able to get them to close it completely.

I'm sure that weather I'm on facebook or not, anyone who cares to could dig up whatever they needed on me... if they really wanted to.
