Parental influence would be a major thing I think. Anyone seen the film 'idiocracy' the first scene springs to mind in that. Just as the population gets stupider in that, the city streets get more gangsterised (my teachers disagree that this is a word, along with gangsterism)

Emerald - Yes a Thin Lizzy themed pickup , but even more specificly Brian Robertson playing his Les Paul Custom . LP Customs had a hotter wound bridge pickup by the 1970s , hence the Emerald has a higher DC than a PAF type pickup

Cold Sweat - again Thin Lizzy, and again a Les Paul Custom but this time it's John Sykes and the sounds that he brought to Lizzy and also his work on Whitesnake's 1987 album (think Tim toyed with calling this pickup the "Badboy" after the track on the WS album before settling on the much better Cold Sweat.) I believe Sykes was using Dirty Fingers pickups in that LP Custom at one time so it's a different vibe to the Emerald. Ceramic magnet for one thing.

Yeah, I watched Idiocracy the other week.

I'm very much afraid there may be some truth in the basic idea - that as stupid people "breed" faster the population as a whole will get stupider on average (I didn't think the film took that idea anywhere very interesting - or funny - though).

Sorry, I'll stop now. These off-topic discussions are funny, though - in a few weeks we'll never be able to remember which thread we discussed gangstas on. :lol:

for those who didn't see i entered quite a long :shock: type post.

decided it was a bit too much and deleted it though. basically the point was that rock and metal musicans are into drugs and gangs too and conduct themselves pretty badly at times.

theres new music coming out all the time, we can't like all of it, but maybe its not sh!t.. just different. for example, i'm a big drum'n'bass and dubstep fan too.

(and like electro as it happens)

edit: by the way indy... JCM800 + Ibanez + Nailbomb... thats quite a RAWK rig you know. just curious as to the music you actually play these days. i remember in the 'old times' you were keen your big 80s type tones, even some talk of modern high gainness. whats brought about this change?

What do I play? No idea... I'll make some clips one day when i get a half decent recording rig (I keep making some with my MacBook mic, but they always sound SO bad). I play a lot of big crunchy open chords, slow, intense arpeggios, some straight up rock lead guitar. There's a sound in my head, and I keep going to name bands that sound like it but there isn't any really.
I still love 80's rawk tones - i just hate the image and the style (and I'm not too keen on that whole wasp in a jam jar thinness they sometimes have). As for high-gain I like a bit of that too, but i find i get bored with it quite quickly. I'm not really very good at guitar, and it's not something i really aspire to be amazing at anymore, i just strum around when i feel like it. I'm far more suited to electronic music I think.
